Registration is open for October Conference! Click here to view the collaborative projects and to sign up for yours today. Open groups are listed in green and open to anyone. Closed groups are listed in pink and are only open to those with connections to the topic. If your department does not have a closed group, you will sign up for one of the open groups (in green.) Click the Sign up HERE! Link at the bottom of each project description to add your name to the list.
Then, on Tuesday, October 10, you will join your team to learn to apply design thinking concepts to an existing project to move the College forward as we innovate our way through NMC Next.
What is October Conference? October Conference is NMC’s professional development day. Attendance is required for all faculty and staff. Adjunct faculty are encouraged to join us!
Our keynote speaker, Dr. Andy Gold, Vice President of Strategic Engagement for the National Association for Community College Entrepreneurship (NACCA) will share tools and resources to assist us with moving projects forward using design thinking principles.

Using NMC’s incredible collection of over 100 specimens, you’ll examine a broad variety of birds up-close and in your hands. Saturday/Sunday, Oct. 14-15; 9 a.m to 4 p.m.

Create your own heirloom quality seating ready for a few lifetimes of service in your home, cottage or castle. Students will choose from a variety of wood slabs – walnut, cherry, poplar, ambrosia maple, or pine – featuring curves, wane, and uneven shapes. NMC will host Applying to College 101, a new event for students beginning their college search, from 6–7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 9.
Admissions representatives will guide participants through the college application process, focusing on what to expect and time frames to be aware of. Co-sponsored with Northern Michigan University, the event will be held in the Timothy J. Nelson Innovation Center, Room 106/107 on NMC’s main campus. Food is provided. Students should RSVP here if they plan to attend.

More than 45 colleges, universities and military branches will be represented at College Night, offering northern Michigan high school students a one-stop shop to evaluate their post graduation options.

Kudos to Kim Gourlay & the Facilities department! Kim Gourlay and Facilities helped to welcome our College for Kids summer learning partner, Kids on the Go, in the Beckett Building. Kids on the Go provides children (ages 3-17 years old) who have special needs with physical, occupation, speech and recreational therapies. Thank you for being so warm and welcoming to our College for Kids partners, staff, instructors, and families.
Kudos to Wayne Moody and the Automotive team! Kudos to Wayne Moody and the Automotive Team for another wonderful car show! It was a great day weather-wise and a record-breaking turnout again this year! Great work!

NMC’s Jazz Big Band will perform at the 9th Annual Leelanau UnCaged Festival on September 30. The Big Band will perform at 5:45 p.m. on Center Stage and will feature an appearance from former NMC Jazz Band directors Mike Hunter and Laurie Sears. Many of the members of NMC’s big Band are working professional musicians in the area with their own groups and are scheduled to perform other sets throughout the day.
