“Intern with the Government” event will take place on April 9

NMC is hosting a free event, “Intern with the Government,” on Wednesday, April 9.  This information session is designed to increase awareness and knowledge about government internships/careers and build the next generation of government employees by covering topics that include the Federal Pathways program, application information and career opportunities.  The event is scheduled for 3-5 p.m. in the Osterlin Building, room 205.  Information is available at www.nmc.edu/careers. Amanda Gower-Resource DevelopmentAmanda Gower joined NMC on March 17, 2014 as the Resource Development Assistant, a position she previously held as a supplemental employee.  She can be reached at (231) 995-1021 or agower@nmc.edu.

Amanda grew up in Williamston, MI, and attended Central Michigan University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Statistics.  Amanda spent the last seven years in Indianapolis where she attended graduate school at Purdue University for I/O Psychology and worked for the Boy Scouts of America.  In her free time she enjoys playing volleyball, reading, and traveling.  She is also an avid hiker who has summited the highest point of 34 states.  Amanda currently lives in Suttons Bay with her husband, John.

NMC staff member is “locked up” to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association

MDA Lock-Up LogoHELP! It is now time for me to learn who my TRUE friends are. On April 16, I am being “Locked Up” and I need your help to raise my bail. I know some of you would rather pay to keep me in jail, but either way it helps adults and children affected by muscular dystrophy in our area by providing clinic visits, support groups, summer camp for youth, flu shots, equipment repair assistance and research. NMC Alumni Art Show features more than 30 former students

ArtMany prominent alumni of the art department of Northwestern Michigan College will have their works displayed this spring at a one of a kind exhibition, hosted at The Traverse City Art and Design Studio from March 29 through May 31.

“Three Decades of Art of NMC” has been made possible by the efforts of NMC Professor Emeritus Paul Welch.  Seeking to find an outlet for all of the great art, and great artists, produced by the college, Welch, who served as the chair of the NMC Art Department for more than 30 years, came up with the idea of an alumni art show.  The support of community partners has helped bring that idea to life.

Hollie is originally from Pennsylvania, but has lived in Traverse City for about 10 years.  She holds a Masters in Human Resource Management from Central Michigan University. Hollie was previously employed by Grand Traverse County Commission on Aging as the Deputy Director, and also worked for Conflict Resolution Services, an organization providing an array of mediation services.  She just celebrated 23 years of marriage to her husband Pat, and they have two teenage sons.  Hollie enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading, boating, camping, and traveling.  She is also a board member for the Women’s Resources Center, where she volunteers some of her time and expertise. Campus Dining’s Spring Break hours

Spring Break Hours for campus dining services:

On March 28 only the Northwest Grind will be open from 7 a.m. till 2 p.m.
All campus dining will be closed until April 6, when they will reopen from 11 a.m. till 7 p.m.
Full schedule of normal operations will resume on April 7.

MoneyNMC has made the process of applying for scholarships easier than ever before.  All you have to do is log in, fill out a short profile and our database will automatically match you with the scholarships you are eligible for.

2014 BBQ projects selected

bbqlogo-intercomThe Northwestern Michigan College Barbecue Board has selected the college programs that will share more than $44,000 in funding from the 59th annual Barbecue, set for May 18 on main campus.

College employees submit proposals for Barbecue funds to support program and equipment needs, contingent on funds raised that day. A subcommittee reviews and recommends proposals to the Barbecue Board, a group of 25 community volunteers. (more…)
