Cigna Voluntary Critical Illness and Accidental Injury Insurances
All regular employees, plus adjunct and supplemental employees who have worked an average of 10 hours per week over a recent 12-month period, are eligible for this insurance. These are the same insurances you received information about last fall, however we will now be offering a reduced rate for nonsmokers who enroll in the Critical Illness insurance! If you have received emails from me, you are eligible and can attend an informational meeting next week to learn more.
If eligible, please RSVP by April 12th to attend one of these meetings if you think this insurance might be of interest to you and your family. You can even enroll online following the presentation, call 1-800-754-3207, or go to http://www.yourbenefitschoices.com/NWMC Cigna will be bringing a Kindle HD to raffle off to anyone who attends these meetings!
Benefits Overview and Refresher
Our regular employees are invited to a 1-hour meeting to learn more about the benefits that NMC offers to them. There are 5 different times that HR is offering this meeting, and appointments were sent out to you this week. Each meeting is the same – just accept one of them and delete the rest if you are interested in catching up on your available benefits. Sorry, no raffle prize but you will be leaving with the gift of knowledge!

The most important thing that Amanda Woodruff of Records & Registration does is being someone that students can relate to. She has been this way as long as she has worked here. She understands their questions, frustrations and is always willing to go the extra mile for them. She remains calm under pressure. She questions transactions before just doing something that might end up being incorrect. She is willing to take on additional duties as assigned. Amanda is a great asset to NMC as she serves our
customers with the highest respect.

Submit your photo(s) of people around campus and not only will we post the best ones, but the ones judged to be the top three will win prizes:

NMC Hagerty Center, Great Lakes Campus–April 11, 2013, 6:00pm
The NMC International Club (NMCIC) will be hosting the Eleventh Annual International Dinner on April 11th, 2013. It will be a chance for the community to broaden cultural horizons, and taste multicultural cuisine.
Food will be prepared by the Hagerty Center Culinary Team, representing the international student population at NMC. The hosts for the evening, members of the NMCIC, will perform and share their culture with attending guests.
NMCIC is a very active club in the college, participating in many campus events, and often volunteering. The International Dinner will be an opportunity to reach further, educate, and interact with members of the community.
Thank you for your support of the international programs here at NMC! This event is now officially SOLD OUT!

At a ceremony in the University Center yesterday, NMC signed “reverse transfer” agreements with seven of our current University Center partners: Central Michigan University, Davenport University, Ferris State University, Grand Valley State University, Michigan State University, Spring Arbor University and Western Michigan University; and also with Northern Michigan University.
The agreements will formalize the process of “reverse” transferring any credits from the four-year university to NMC that complete requirements for an NMC degree or certificate. Students need simply to initiate the process of transferring the credits with their four-year institution.
A benefit of the reverse transfer process is that studies show that students who successfully complete the associate’s degree are more likely to persist and complete a bachelor’s degree.
Congratulations to NMC’s three recipients of NISOD (National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development) awards this year.
The honorees are:
Communications Instructor Nancy Gray
Communications Instructor Kristen Salathiel
Director of Business Division and NMC Academic Affairs Sue DeCamillis

Costs associated with an unexpected illness or accident can have a serious effect on your family’s finances. To help increase your financial protection, Northwestern Michigan College is offering eligible employees an opportunity to apply for Critical Illness and Accidental Injury insurance through Cigna effective May 1, 2013. The enrollment period for this insurance is April 8 – 19, 2013.
Critical Illness and Accidental Injury insurance can help you pay out-of-pocket expenses not covered by traditional insurance. These plans provide a lump sum, cash payment directly to you as a result of a covered accident or serious illness. You can spend the money however you choose or use it to help pay for additional expenses such as transportation, room and board, child care, rehabilitation, and more.
This coverage is being offered to regular employees as well as adjunct and supplemental employees who have worked an average of 10 hours per week over a recent 12-month period. It does not replace regular medical insurance or cover medical service claims, but it can supplement you with cash payments should you or your enrolled dependents experience a critical illness or accidental injury. If you qualify for this insurance, you will have received an email from me earlier this week.
CIGNA will be holding short informational meetings at the following times. Please RSVP by April 11th to attend one of these meetings if you think this insurance might be of interest to you and your family. You can even enroll online following the presentation, call 1-800-754-3207, or go to http://www.yourbenefitschoices.com/NWMC
