Thanks from the Father Fred Foundation

Cheri Garvin of the Admissions office reports staff at the Father Fred Foundation were overwhelmed at the delivery of coats and other winter gear donated at the NMC holiday party Dec. 12. Winter clothing was in such limited supply that client families had been limited to two coats. The 30 bags that Garvin delivered will help many Father Fred clients have a much warmer winter. Thanks to all faculty and staff who donated to the effort. (more…)

Jinwon Chang’s Art Installation opens at the Dennos Museum Center

Jinwon Chang HWEH - GEEH Dennos Museum Center installationThe Dennos Museum Center at Northwestern Michigan College is pleased to announce the opening of the exhibition HWEH – GEEH Returning Again an installation by Jinwon Chang. The exhibition will be on view through May 17, 2015.

The imagery for the exhibition Hweh – Geeh was inspired by three near death experiences in Jinwon Chang’s life, each as a result of drowning; at age 4 in a river, at age 10 in a swimming pool, and in high school at the sea. These traumatic events were the catalyst that resulted in Jinwon creating imagery based on aquatic creatures and vessels able to survive in water. In their suspended state, as installed in the exhibition, they become for him floating self-portraits. (more…)

Student Life office available for student support

Recently, there have been many incidents regarding race and privilege that have sparked protests around the country, including here in Traverse City. With so much energy being focused on this topic within communities and by mainstream and social media, many intense feelings are commonly experienced. This email is a reminder that the Student Life office is here to assist students with any feelings or concerns regarding these current events, or to assist with related issues that may be happening on our campus

If you know of a student that is struggling with what has been occurring, counselors in the Student Life office are available to offer support and discuss these important topics.

Again, please don’t hesitate to give our office a call (5-1118) or walk a student over if you are concerned. We are here to help!

For more information please refer to the NMC Non-Discrimination Policy or visit the Personal Counseling homepage. (more…)
