Northwestern Michigan College and Western Michigan University have received formal approval to offer joint curriculum that leads to both an associate’s degree in freshwater studies from NMC and a bachelor’s degree in freshwater sciences and sustainability from WMU.
This program creates a single pipeline where students can complete all of their degree requirements in Traverse City.
Join Central Michigan University’s Global Campus for a Lunch and Learn presentation on connecting government to citizen and government accountability on Thursday, May 29 at noon in the University Center, room 204.
The NMC Fitness Centers partnership with the American Council of Exercise (ACE) allows NMC to offer a three credit hour course in Personal Trainer Certification. At the core of that instruction, once competency is met, ACE students are placed with NMC Fitness Center clients to assist in their training.
A recent student, Audry Shankland. was commended for her outstanding support assisting fitness center client Murphy Drury who has some challenges due to a form of autism. Audrey’s care, compassion, and exercise regime were readily assimilated by Murphy. Murphy’s mother reported her delight and appreciation for Audrey’s interaction with Murphy. ACE Instructor Zack Light stated “Audrey’s performance was exemplary”.

Thank you all for your work in submitting your department level operational plans for FY’15. It looks to be a year positioned for much progress and achievement! The birth of the Dennos Museum’s Inuit art collection is told here by Phil Power, son of Eugene, who along with the establishment of Eskimo Art Inc., helped facilitate a gift of Inuit art to Bernie Rink (Library Director) at Northwestern Michigan College in 1960. This gift that would grow into one of the largest museum collections of Inuit art in the USA – now at the Dennos. Eugene’s collection is now a part of the Dennos collection, which exceeds 1,500 works. (more…)

The Northwest Grind will be open May 2 from 7 a.m. till 2 p.m. (May 2 is the last day for students, staff and faculty to use their meal plans.)

Michael was born and raised in central Illinois, where he met his wife, Rita. After earning his Bachelor’s degree in Music from SIU-Carbondale, Michael continued in the field of education by earning Master’s degrees in both Music Education and Educational Administration. His previous experience includes several years in both secondary and post-secondary levels in the fields of Music, Guidance & Counseling, Administration, and as Registrar. Michael enjoys camping, hunting, scuba diving, designing and installing ceramic tile & related products, Forex currency exchange trading, researching the Hebraic roots of Christianity, and trains. He also is a former member and guest conductor with the Encore Society of Music, locally. Michael and Rita have three grown children. (more…)
