Kudos to Alex Tank for successfully completing the third season of Extended Education’s Coffee Chats Series last Friday, March 18th. This pandemic inspired (virtual) series has temporarily replaced Extended Education community engagement events such as Campus Days and LIFE Lunches. Coffee Chats have been planned, researched, recorded, and conducted live via Zoom solely by Alex Tank, Communications & Events Program Officer for the International Affairs Forum, and also a Contributor for Extended Education. From the making of pencils with Faber-Castell, to sharing NMC’s Music and Audio Tech musical/sound pieces, to the brewing of coffee and beer, Alex has introduced our community to 34 unique topics and presenters by conducting comprehensive and compelling interviews with EES Coffee Chat guests. Thank you, Alex!

Kudos to Kristy Jackson: Since this January, Kristy Jackson, Extended Education Program Manager, has cultivated 137 adult and youth learning opportunities for Extended Education’s Summer 2022 term. Kristy has harnessed the new registration system, taught instructors how to utilize their instructor portals, programmed new classes with new instructors, maintained current class offerings, and has led the team in developing programming best practices within the new system. Kristy, thank you for your leadership, enthusiasm, patience, and creativity.

Kudos to Michael Anderson: Michael is very respectable when it comes to taking off his boots and changing into other shoes before entering the Fitness Center at North Hall. Kudos to Erika Cotner, Chris Hanna and Cari Noga for their excellent work collaborating on a new video for recruitment and employer branding for the college. The selection of speakers and writing aligns beautifully with NMC Next and really highlights the quality, uniqueness and diversity of our programs. The production quality demonstrates NMC’s commitment to excellence. Great collaboration and great result! Thank you!!

Kudos to the Career Fair Committee, the Hagerty Center staff and everyone that volunteered in bringing the NMC Career Fair back to the Hagerty Center face-to-face. It was obvious that students, staff and community partners were overjoyed to have an event in-person and it was not possible without the group effort in planning and implementing. Thank you for your willingness to go the extra mile and offer this event to our students and community! The production quality demonstrates NMC’s commitment to excellence. Kudos to Katie Sommer-Ford, Lisa Baldyga and Hannah Witte: Katie Sommer-Ford and Lisa Baldyga partnered to organize and execute the 2022 NMC & NW Michigan Works! Career Fair. Hannah Witte designed the marketing pieces including flyers, tri-fold table displays, social media posts, and email graphics for the event. This was the first in-person fair since 2020. Last year Katie and Lisa organized a completely virtual fair. This year they again took the lead to gather internal and external partners, organize volunteers, develop a marketing plan, collaborate with 60 different employers, and produce a successful and engaging event. More than 80 students and community members participated and feedback from all participants was very positive.

Kudos to Steve Dix and Justin Guillard: They are on campus everyday working behind the scenes to keep us all up and running. They are often on the run themselves. Thank you for covering the bases for us. You are appreciated.

Kudos to Emily Crull for her help in hiring adjuncts in Health Occupations. Emily went above and beyond to help us go through the process of hiring adjuncts and we appreciate it very much. Thank you.

Kudos to Lisa Baldyga: Lisa has been hosting awesome events to prep our students for the career fair!

Kudos to Tracy Welch: Tracy has been supporting Experiential Learning Opportunities (ELOs) on campus like the career fair lunch and learns, LinkedIn Webinar and is always supporting student events!

Kudos to Amy Burns- Bailey: Amy applied for an EL grant to bring Chaim Shapiro, a Social Media Consultant specializing in LinkedIn to our campus and community. This was a wonderful source of information for our students, staff, faculty, and community members. Thank you for your leadership on this event!

Kudos to Dave Weaver for volunteering a 3-day weekend to travel to Michigan Tech in support of the NMC Motorsports Clubs Blizzard Baja competition event. Dave was instrumental in our successful 3rd place win. Thank You from all of us at the Automotive Tech Department and the Motorsports club.

Kudos to Jim Bensley, Alex Tank and Julie Doyal for their coordination and managing of the International Affairs Forum Academic WorldQuest competition last week. Twelve teams from six local high schools went head to head in this competition. It was the first time it has been held in person since the pandemic and the IAF group did a great job of pulling it all together.

Kudos to the Students of the Transmission class: I would like to thank all the students that worked Monday, February 28th so diligently on finding the source of my car’s issues. They all worked together along with James and Wayne in finding out that my transmission was not the issue, but an air filter and torn boots were creating the problems. This was a much cheaper and easier fix.

Kudos to the Grounds Department for staying on top of snow and ice and everything else that needs to be done. We appreciate and notice your work!

Kudos to Dave Dalquist for all of his help with making A3 forms more consistent and professional and easier for users. We appreciate your behind the scenes efforts very much.

Kudos to Scott Swan for his work and support of the Agriscience GIS Pathway program. The GIS Pathway is a collaboration between the Northwest Education Services Career Tech Agriscience program, the Geospatial Technologies Talent Consortium, and the NMC Freshwater Studies Program.

Kudos to Alex Tank and Jim Bensley for their IAF presentation on a conversation about China —”Is Détente Possible? China” featuring Kenneth Jarrett. They did a great job with their hybrid approach to sharing these presentations. It was well done and well received by almost 195 viewers. Thank you.

Kudos to Ed Bailey, Hans Van Sumeren, and Georgenia Hromada for representing NMC at the Michigan Society of Professional Surveyors (MSPS) conference at the Grand Traverse Resort last week. They did a great job and worked well in highlighting the partnership with Michigan Tech with representatives from Michigan Tech in the adjacent booth.

Kudos to Kyle Morrison: Kyle was extremely helpful in assisting our department set up a webinar. He walked us through the process, explained the importance of doing a test trial webinar, and assisted afterward with the video link. His instructions and advice made all the difference!

Kudos to Chad Schenkelberger, Scott Williams and Dining Services Staff: The Dining Services staff did a tremendous job on the food offerings for the Embrace the Dream “Food for the Soul” event from 4 pm to 6 pm in the Hawk Owl Cafe on Thursday, February 3, 2022. Those who attended enjoyed the food and the commitment to detail that was made in the selection.

Kudos to Lori Hodek: Lori Hodek did an excellent job facilitating the Embrace the Dream campus events. She held collaborative and informative meetings, maintained critical documents and spreadsheets, and provided necessary follow-through.

Her coordination with community partners, faculty & staff made the outstanding variety and quality of events possible.

Kudos to the Nursing faculty: Congratulations to the nursing faculty, NLEX pass rates (ADN: 95.74%; PN: 90.90%) for 2021 were exceptional!

Kudos to Hans VanSumeren, John Lutchko, Phil McCuien, Brian Sweeney, Cindy Deemer, Cathryn Claerhout, Jordan Smith and Georgenia Hromada: Kudos to Hans and John for delivering marine technology courses to the Yellow River Conservancy Technical Institute (China). Hans and John provided livestream coursework on ROVs and hydrographic surveying. Students then put these skills to practice during classwork and lab exercises on their home campus.

Kudos to Phil and Brian for delivering construction-related courses to the construction trades program at Yellow River Conservancy Technical Institute (China). NMC provides education around wood framing and finishing that is not available at their institution. Students supplemented their online learning with hands-on practice at their home institution.

Due to a 13 hour time difference, both the marine and construction courses had to be delivered late at night, sometimes well past midnight in order to accommodate the learners in China. They also had to complete the training before the Chinese New Year, which put added stress on the instructors. A big thank you also needs to be extended to Cathryn Claerhout and Cindy Deemer for admitting and registering students, Jordan Smith and Georgenia Hromada for scheduling students, and others who supported contracts and delivery. It was a true team effort. This is the fourth year of this partnership.

Kudos to Elizabeth Sonnaband, Laura Matchett and Ed Bailey: Kudos to Elizabeth Sonnaband, Laura Matchett, and Ed Bailey for their work in creating the Workforce Development series, the program is a set of courses designed to meet the specific needs of the region’s employer and a direct response to the work TC Connect Skills Gap Survey completed in late 2021.
