Davenport University offering internship workshop
Davenport University at the UC is hosting an internship workshop for employers which would be a good opportunity to attend for any NMC departments that are interested in having an intern and understanding the process. The workshop is February 19, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the UC, room 208. A light lunch will be served.
24-hour donor challenge to support NMC set for February 13
With a $2,400 presidential incentive at stake, the NMC Foundation is aiming for 100 donor gifts in 24 hours on February 13.
The 24-hour donor challenge is a participation challenge that seeks to to inspire gifts from 100 alumni, friends and family who believe in the power of learning at NMC. President Timothy J. Nelson has personally offered the incentive of a matching gift of $24 for each of the first 100 gifts, up to $2,400 total. (more…)

Scythian to Perform at the Dennos
The Dennos Museum Center at Northwestern Michigan College will present Scythian (sith-ee-yin) on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 8:00 PM in Milliken Auditorium. Passport Student Lecture Series continues Feb. 19 with focus on Nigeria
NMC International Services and Service Learning presents their Passport Student Lecture Series for February with international student Emmanuel who will speak to attendees about Nigeria. The lecture will take place on Thursday, Feb. 19 from 12:15 – 1:00 pm in Founders Hall, room 110. Guests are invited to bring lunch and/or coffee to enjoy while they listen.
CIE’s Friday Forum for February focuses on preparing for unknown situations
Friday Forums will occur one Friday each month through April. These forums are brought to you by the Center for Instructional Excellence which supports student learning by encouraging faculty-driven initiatives, promoting development of faculty knowledge, and recognizing the achievement of excellence. February’s Friday Forum will take place on Friday, Feb. 6 from noon-1:30pm in Founders Hall 110 and addresses the question: Can we be prepared for unknown situations? How to handle difficult students and situations. Lunch is provided, good conversation is guaranteed.

Student Veterans group will host Chili Cook Off on Feb. 18
The NMC Student Veterans of America group will host a Chili Cook Off on February 18 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Welcome Center of the Health Science Building. A $1 donation will get you three samples and for just $3 you can buy a bowl. Come vote for your favorite chili and help support the Student Veterans group!

Febraury Wellness Works – Sleep on it
Over time, chronic sleep deprivation may lead to an array of serious medical conditions including obesity, diabetes, heart disease and even early mortality. While sleep requirements vary by individual, the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke reports that most adults need seven to eight hours a night. Though, some people may need as few as 5 hours per night and others may need up to nine or ten hours of sleep each day for proper functioning.
Studies show that people who get the appropriate amount of sleep on a regular basis tend to live longer, healthier lives than those who sleep too few or even too many hours each night. This underscores the importance of making sleep a top priority. (more…)
