Are You An NMC Wellness Olympian?

The NMC Wellness Olympics are here!

  • We now have 47 NMC Olympians;  people just keep signing up!
  • We have logged 264 hours of exercise!

There are two parts to the NMC Wellness Olympics: Olympic Training and Olympic Events.

Olympic Training
During Olympic Training participants will keep track of points through an online form. 15 minutes of exercise = 1 point. Please self report the week of the exercise. As well, participants will determine if they are a “Veteran Olympian” (currently exercising 3x per week) or “Amateur Olympian” (currently exercising less than 2x per week).
Olympic Events
A variety of events will be occurring during the Olympics (July 27-August 12). These events are still to be determined.
What’s my next step?
Registration for Olympic Training is happening now – there’s no deadline to get in. You can start logging your hours after you sign up. Register now by clicking on this link: https://docs.google.com/a/nmc.edu/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dGQwbG9Xc2NHV2JLZ0xCUG9Ra0ZHemc6MQ#gid=0

Once Registered  (Link Revised)
Once registered, log your points at:  https://docs.google.com/a/nmc.edu/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dFZmQTk4b2U3WjFqYW5yNHdCcDBBZUE6MQ#gid=0

Get a Team Together
Student Life has banded together and challenged another team.  Your team can choose a country to represent.  Why not get a team together and challenge someone else.???

If you haven’t registered for the NMC Wellness Olympics…why not?   You’ll soon start getting updates directly from Olympic Plaza once you do and find out how your fellow Olympic trainees are doing!

Activities of Note: Faculty and Staff

• On March 6th, the Upward Bound program staff, in conjunction with the The Rotary Club of  Traverse City (STRIVE PROGRAM) organized and offered the 1st Annual Upward Bound  Career Fair. The event took place at NMC’s Oleson Center, where twenty-seven Rotarians  (including NMC’s very own Ross Childs) from various professionals met with our Upward  Bound students. The designed format allowed for each student to rotate around the room and ask questions of each Rotarian. The intended outcome was that each Upward Bound student  be exposed to a variety of professionals as part of their career and college planning. Students would also have the opportunity to further develop their interpersonal communication skills.
Evaluation results from both Rotarians and students alike, indicated that the event was hugely  successful. As first-time events can sometimes go, it exceeded our expectations. The plan  now is to offer the event each year…. incorporating a few changes as suggested in the evaluations (as part of the Plan, Do, Adjust improvement process). (more…)

Kudos to Hagerty Center Staff

To the Hagerty Center Staff for accommodating the large crowd for the Annual Scholarship Luncheon.  The team did an outstanding job staying on schedule, accommodating special requests, and making adjustments on the fly as things changed.  The service, food, and venue were outstanding and made for a wonderful experience for all our honored guests.  Many thanks to all involved.

Kudos to Lisa Cooper

To Lisa Cooper for the outstanding job she did managing the ever-changing details of the scholarship luncheon.  As a result of her efforts, the event went off without a hitch.

Kudos to Jan McKinnon

To Jan McKinnon for going beyond the call of duty to help finish preparations for the Bridge Recognition Night on May 1.  At the last minute, she helped provide NMC favors to each of the Bridge learners who completed their classes.  Thanks Jan!

2012 Employee Engagement Results

The Office of Research, Planning and Effectiveness has released the results of the 2012 employee survey. The results were sent out to the campus via email on Thursday, May 3. It is also available on the NMC Intranet along with the reports from 2010 and 2011. The link is:

https://intranet.nmc.edu/depts/orpe/research/index.html

These results are intended to help NMC shape continuous improvement efforts related to attracting, developing and retaining talent as well as suggest opportunities for process improvement. Thank you to all of you who participated this year!

Literary Editor Brittany Erickson, along with faculty advisors
Caroline Schaefer and John Pahl, received a Special Award at the
annual NMEAC Environmentalist of the Year Awards.  The Special Award

governmental agencies, and non-profit organizations in helping
preserve the quality of our region’s natural environment and
increasing public awareness of environmental issues.

Anjanette Merriweather, who is among the students speaking at the
coming TEDx event, will be graduating from NMC’s Visual Communication
