Northwestern Michigan College will graduate 689 students this spring, and 200 of them will participate in NMC’s 59th commencement exercises, Saturday, May 5 at 2 p.m. in the gymnasium at Traverse City Central High School.  The public is invited to attend, or can watch the ceremony streamed online at www.nmc.edu/video.

Students who graduated Fall 2011 or have already applied to graduate Spring and Summer 2012 are eligible to participate in the ceremony.  NMC’s University Center partner Ferris State University will also participate.  Tickets are not required for guests.

Speakers for this year’s ceremony include NMC chemistry instructor Blake Key, the 2011 winner of the school’s Imogene Wise Faculty Excellence Award, and Michael Diduch, president of the NMC Student Government Association.  The 2012 winner of the award, and its companion, the Adjunct Faculty Excellence Award, will be announced.

NMC will honor three Outstanding Alumni: Kathleen McManus (Nursing ’74), Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Munson Medical Center, Steve Rawlings (Aviation ’91), Regional Manager, DTE Energy, and Timothy Young (’82) Founder and President of Food for Thought.

NMC will also hold its annual Honors Convocation at 5 p.m., May 4 at the Dennos Museum Center.  The event honors winners of the annual Academic Area scholarships, honors scholarships and the Adult Student of the Year.
