The WCMU Free Nights at the Museum will occur on the first Thursday of the month with each Community Cinema program offered by WCMU Public Television. The Museum will be open to the public free of charge from 5-8 PM on those Thursdays thanks to the cooperation of WCMU Public Broadcasting.

There is good news to report to all who have been anticipating the progress from the duck’s nest located at the entry of the Dennos Museum Center. On Friday evening (4/27/12) Stephen and Carolyn Drake observed the mother duck safely leading the ten ducklings to Scholars Hall where they will be educated properly in reading and writing. The mother patiently waited until the last duckling negotiated the parking lot curbing before moving onward to Scholars Hall. NMC has always attracted “those” who have direction and are persistent.
Bob and Hilary James – Chuck and Lizzy Loeb in a Fathers and Daughters concert on Saturday May 5, at 8 PM in Milliken Auditorium. Tickets are $30 advance, $35 at the door and $27 for museum members plus ticket fees. Tickets may be purchased on line at www.dennosmuseum.org or by calling the box office at 231-995-1553.
Traverse City’s own Grammy Award winning jazz legend Bob James, and founding member of the super group Fourplay, along with the newest band member, internationally renowned guitarist Chuck Loeb come together on the Milliken stage to close our 20th anniversary season featuring their daughters Hilary and Lizzy, who are accomplished vocalists in their own right.
Bob James (www.bobjames.com) has had a long career as a noted jazz pianist performing around the world. Traverse City fans will remember his appearance on the Milliken stage with his daughter, Hilary, after the release of their CD Flesh and Blood in 1995. The CD is being re-released by Tappan Zee Records in association with the upcoming May 5 concert and will be available that evening. Bob has been an ongoing favorite performer on the Milliken stage bringing many unique concert programs to Milliken over the years.
Chuck Loeb (www.chuckloeb.com) Chuck Loeb (wwwchcha renowned jazz guitarist, composer, arranger, producer, educator and recording artist became part of Fourplay in 2010. His daughter Lizzy (www.lizzyloeb.com) is a singer, songwriter and guitarist with a successful career of her own performing both in the US and Europe.
“We are pleased to present these two proud fathers on our stage with their talented daughters,” says Gene Jenneman, Museum Director, “Bob never fails to bring a special program to our concert series and this is the perfect father/daughter event; one which I hope will find many fathers and daughters together in the audience.”

The Osterlin Library and the Center for Learning will have extended hours this weekend to give students a little extra time to finish those last papers and study for finals: Saturday, April 28, Noon to 6:00 p.m. and Sunday, April 29, 3:00 to 9:00 p.m.
Some important changes have been made to the admission process to NMC’s Associate Degree Nursing program (ADN). Thirty-six students will continue to be admitted to ADN program each spring and fall semester. In an effort to reward academic success and make the process more competitive, the following changes have been made:
There are now three ways to secure a spot in the program each semester.
Students who wish to be placed on the existing wait list must become eligible by May 31, 2012.
Students not on the wait list by May 31, 2012 must complete the competitive process each semester.
Applications are due by July 1 for Spring semester and February 1 for Fall semester.
In order to become eligible for admission in the program, a student may not repeat any math or science class more than once.
Students will receive much more advance notice of their admission into the program. This will allow students to better prepare themselves and make the necessary arrangements to start the program.
Notification for Fall semester admission (August) to the program will be made starting in February, and notification of admission to the Spring semester program (January) will be made starting in July.
To best answer any questions you have about the new admissions process, an Information Session will be held Tuesday, May 1 at 4:30 p.m. in the Milliken Auditorium at the Dennos Museum Center on NMC’s main campus.
