Kudos to Vicki Cook, Robert Scott & Nate Glidden

To Vicki Cook, Robert Scott and Nate Glidden for making sure our residence hall students were properly taken care of during the big winter storm.  They were able to find alternative housing and also provided meals at the Hagerty Center.  Hat’s off to you for taking care of our students!

Kudos to Kirby Anderson, Dan Goodchild & Sarah Kuhlman

To Kirby Anderson, Dan Goodchild and Sarah Kuhlman for providing a campus tour of Aero Park Labs to 40+ seventh grade students.  They gave them an opportunity to build a small project they could take home with them.  The students and staff were all impressed with the facilities and the enthusiasm of our team.

Kudos to Bob Chauvin

To Bob Chauvin for helping an injured student get to class.  Bob noticed a student was having trouble walking into the Parsons-Stulen Building.  He asked the student if they wanted medical help.  The student refused and was intent on getting to class.  Bob proceeded to help the student find a rolling chair and wheeled the student to class.  The student said he was overwhelmed by how much concern Bob had for him.

Kudos to Donna Palmer

To Donna Palmer for the exceptional service she provided to an external customer.  A customer called and needed a room change at the last moment, Donna successfully made the move.  On the day of the event there were some technical problems in the assigned room so Donna yet again was able to find another room.  Donna did this calmly and graciously and was able to communicate well with all parties involved.

Kudos to Irina Grougan & Shannon Owen

To Irina Grougan, Shannon Owen and the Advising Center Team for their huge success in the 6th Annual Career Fair!  Kudos Irina Grougan and Shannon Owen for taking on the leadership of this large scale event.  They did a tremendous job and received rave reviews from both employers and job seekers.  The Career Fair drew 87 employers and approximately 300 attendees.

Stephanie D. Davis Appointed ACRL Chapter Representative

The MLA Board of Directors appointed Stephanie D. Davis, Library Instruction Coordinator, Northwestern Michigan College, to serve as ACRL Representative for a one-year term from June 1, 2012 – May 31, 2013, at their February 10, 2012 meeting. Scott Garrison, Associate Dean for Public Services and Technology, Western Michigan University will serve as Chapter Representative-Elect for a two-year term from June 1, 2012 – May 31, 2014.

Stephanie’s work experience, education and involvement in MLA qualify her to serve as the ACRL chapter representative. As a seasoned academic librarian, she understands the need for MLA’s affiliation with ACRL as a means of strengthening the services MLA provides its membership. ACRL represents the interests of the academic library community nationally and a strong connection between MLA and ACRL offers the most effective means for helping academic librarians stay up-to-date on national issues. She is ready to fulfill the obligation to serve as a bridge between MLA and ACRL to improve communication, providing membership with information about relevant national issues as well as opportunities for service and participation in ACRL. Keeping ACRL informed about the activities and needs of MLA’s academic community would be an essential function of this role as well.

She also understands the requirements for membership in both organizations and the need for attendance at the ALA Midwinter and Annual meetings. She is knowledgeable of both MLA and ARCL and can successfully complete the duties of writing meeting reports and presenting information from the ACRL meetings to the MLA membership and board. She is of aware of the need to advocate for MLA at ACRL and to act as ambassador between the two groups on behalf of MLA’s academic membership. She is comfortable and experienced with the liaison role and welcomes the chance to serve MLA’s academic membership, bolstering the role of MLA in the academic library community.
