Learn how to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) to respond to sudden cardiac arrest. This is a non-certification training that will provide attendees with hands-on learning opportunities.

The bookstore is partnering with eCampus to provide cheaper prices, more rental options and speedy book delivery for you. When shopping, you’ll be able to log in with your NMC email and password for a personalized list of what you need.
eCampus offers free shipping in 2-3 days to the NMC Bookstore or free shipping to your home for orders of $59 or more. The NMCBookstore will not have books in store on the shelf, so be sure to order your books before classes start.
Please note that inventory is arriving every day; if your book is out of stock, check back soon and it’ll be available for you to order.
Want to use your financial aid for books? Any scholarships/grants/loans that are left after tuition and fees can be used to purchase your textbooks. These funds are available between Aug. 3 – Sept. 9; you’ll be able to see how much money is available at checkout and decide how you want to use it.
All lab kits, uniforms, school supplies and Hawk Owl merch will continue to be available at the NMC Bookstore in the Health & Science building on the Front Street Campus.

TRAVERSE CITY — Northwestern Michigan College’s Great Lakes Culinary Institute will host and operate Cafe Lobdell’s through July 29.
Cafe Lobdell’s is the capstone course in GLCI’s one-year Baking Certificate program. Culinary students will make and serve fresh sweet and savory baked goods, quiche, yogurt parfaits, healthy breakfast bowls plus sandwiches and salads to go, as well as a wide variety of specialty coffee drinks.
No reservations are required. Counter service hours are 7:30–11 a.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Cafe Lobdell’s is on the second level of NMC’s Great Lakes campus, 715 E. Front St.

On Saturday, July 4 and Saturday, July 11, NMC Security will restrict access to the Great Lakes Campus parking lot beginning in the afternoon. Parking is limited to NMC employees, students, their guests and scheduled private events. Please bring your NMC ID and show it to security to access the lot.

TRAVERSE CITY — More than 250 young anglers and their families are expected at the annual Rotary Kids Free Fishing Day, set from 9 a.m.–1 p.m. Saturday, June 20 at Northwestern Michigan College’s Great Lakes campus.
Kids accompanied by an adult are invited to join in the free fishing fun. Under the supervision of the Department of Natural Resources, 500 brown trout 10 inches or longer will be stocked in the campus harbor for the event. Fishing rods, reels and bait are all provided. Children may also bring their own fishing gear. Experienced volunteers including Rotarians and cadets from the Great Lakes Maritime Academy will help with baiting hooks and fishing skills. Members of the Northwest Michigan Fishing Club will clean the fish for the young anglers. The Great Lakes Children’s Museum will host a free fish painting activity for kids waiting to fish. There will also be a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter flyover. Parking is available at NMC’s Great Lakes Campus, 715 E. Front St., Traverse City, located just east of the Delamar Hotel on U.S. 31. Free Fishing Day is sponsored by Traverse City Rotary Clubs, Rotary Camps & Services, NMC, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians, Rhonda & Michael Estes, Great Lakes Children’s Museum and the Northwest Michigan Fishing Club.

TRAVERSE CITY — Registration is now open for College Edge, a free program NMC is hosting this summer to help college students prepare for their fall semester.
Running July 13-Aug.7, College Edge is a four-week program to help prepare students to succeed before they start or continue college at NMC this fall. Interested students can register for one of two options:
Students will also receive success coaching tips and tools like time management and studying smarter. For completing the program, students will earn a $250 scholarship toward NMC’s fall semester and a free graphing calculator. Find out more at nmc.edu/edge
College Edge hosted by NMC debuted in 2023. It is part of the investment the state of Michigan is making in its student-age population. If you have previously downloaded the Microsoft Office suite to your personal computer, you may have encountered a message similar to the following:
This message results from recent changes implemented by Microsoft regarding licensing provision for educational institutions. Without delving into technical details, these changes have affected our ability to provide direct access to the downloaded applications for students. Going forward, Microsoft now limits student access to the Office applications through office.com.
While most of you are utilizing the Google suite of applications, there remains a significant number of users relying on the Microsoft download applications. We recommend transitioning to Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides as alternatives to Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. A key benefit of the Google suite is its ability to transfer files from Word, Excel, or PowerPoint to Google Drive, where they can be opened with the appropriate Google applications, saved in the original format, and downloaded as needed.
In certain cases, there may be a necessity to use the Microsoft Office applications locally. We are currently awaiting assistance from a Microsoft licensing specialist to determine the appropriate number of licenses required for these rare instances where using the desktop versions of Word or Excel is essential for coursework.
