William completed his course evaluations during spring 2015 semester and in doing so was entered into a drawing to receive a gift card. He was the lucky winner of the card, but NMC and future NMC students are the long term winners. On Wednesday, May 27, 2015, the IRS announced its “Get Transcript” application had been compromised by cyber criminals. Over 100,000 taxpayers’ accounts were illegally accessed. The “Get Transcript” application has been temporarily disabled. The IRS has taken several additional measures to protect taxpayers and their confidential information.
This impacts students and families who may be requesting tax transcripts to complete their financial aid process. At this time, tax transcripts are only available when requested by mail and take up to ten days for delivery. Students and parents are strongly encouraged to utilize the IRS Data Retrieval Tool (DRT) available within fafsa.ed.gov. Links to a statement from the IRS and a Q & A list are provided below. (more…)
The Dennos Museum Center at Northwestern Michigan College and The New Jazz Archive are pleased to announce a CD release event featuring a live interview with Bob James, conducted by The New Jazz Archive host, Jeff Haas. The live interview will take place at 7:30 pm on Saturday, June 27, 2015 in the Milliken Auditorium, and will be recorded for an upcoming episode of the nationally syndicated radio program, The New Jazz Archive. Tickets are $25 advance, $28 at the door, and $22 for Museum Members, plus fees. Active duty military personnel and their families can enjoy free admission to the Dennos Museum Center at Northwestern Michigan College all summer long thanks to Blue Star Museums, a collaboration among the National Endowment for the Arts; Blue Star Families, a non-profit organization supporting military families; and the U.S. Department of Defense. The Dennos Museum Center at Northwestern Michigan College will host a series of events in conjunction with Sideways: Exploring Skateboard Art + Culture. Events will provide a mix of free and ticketed programs for all ages, with fundraising efforts to support Dennos programs and Third Level Crisis Intervention. (more…)
Memorial services for the late Jo Bullis will be held on June 3, 2015, at the Hagerty Conference Center, on NMC’s Great Lakes Campus, 715 E. Front Street, Traverse City.
Doors will open at 5 p.m., and the service will start at 5:30 pm.
Rabbi Chava Bahle and Sister Augusta Stratz will serve as officiants. Questions may be directed to Mary Kavanaugh-Gahn, 231-941-0771.
Bullis died May 15, 2015. She spent 25 years working at the Women’s Resource Center and was also an adjunct instructor at NMC. She taught courses on criminal law, criminal procedure, ethics, diversity, civil rights and interpersonal communication, domestic violence nature and prevalence, as well as domestic violence law. Read her obituary here.
Northwestern Michigan College and Munson Regional EMS have partnered to offer an Associate in Applied Science Degree (AAS) with a Paramedic focus. All general education classes are offered at NMC; all paramedic classes are offered through Munson Regional EMS. It is designed so students can transfer 43 paramedic credits from Munson Regional EMS to NMC. Once an additional 18 or more general education credits are completed as identified in the NMC program map, the student will earn an AAS – Paramedic.

A Quick Guide on how to forward NMC emails
If you have too many email accounts and are always forgetting to login and check emails, don’t worry. Here is a quick tech tip on how to forward your NMC email to your chosen email.
Let’s start off with the page you see below. Click on the gear icon on the top right hand corner of your NMC email where the red arrow indicates on the image below.

Once you have clicked on the gear, a drop down box will appear. Then click on “Settings” which the red arrow below is pointing towards. (more…)

Published at the end of each term, the Dean’s List recognizes the outstanding academic achievement of full-time and part-time students. These students have achieved a grade point average of 3.5 or above out of a possible 4.0 while taking twelve or more credits (full-time) or between six and eleven credits (part-time). The Dennos Museum Center at Northwestern Michigan College presents Tall Tales from a Large Man on June 19, 2015 at 7pm, in conjunction with the exhibition, Sideways: Exploring Skateboard Art + Culture, May 31 – September 6, 2015. The event kicks off a weekend of art, skateboarding, and music that will take place at the Museum and Civic Center Skate Park on June 20-21. More details will be available online at dennosmuseum.org.

Summer is here and the NMC Security Department is asking for your help. Security will be tagging bicycles on campus which appear to be abandoned. Bikes slated for pick-up will have a tag attached to the bike’s chain sprocket. If your bicycle is tagged, simply remove the tag to let Security know that the bike is still in use and not abandoned. Bikes with tags left on them will be picked up after noon on Friday, May 15, 2015.
