Jim Bensley and Marina Call; Thank you to Jim Bensley and Marina Call for sharing the Study Abroad 2024 picture awards at the TJNIC. What a wonderful opportunity for our NMC students and the pictures were amazing!

Amber Marsh and Tait Ricks; I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Amber Marsh and Tait Ricks for their outstanding contributions to NMC through the Americorp MCAN program. Over the past two years, their dedication and hard work have significantly impacted the lives of our students. Through their efforts, our coaching team has been able to reach more students, offer additional workshops, provide invaluable support at the Neurodiversity Center, and collaborate with other departments to create a more inclusive and supportive campus environment. As their time with us comes to an end in November, we will greatly miss their presence and wish them all the best in their future endeavors. Thank you, Amber and Tait, for your exceptional service to NMC!

Dan Wasson; Dan recently facilitated an Extended Education & Training Tabletop Exercise on College for Kids procedures. Thank you Dan for providing a safe space for us to dissect and deliberate our procedures and processes. Your leadership helped us to uncover processes that need refining and procedures that need clarification. We are continuously improving our programming, and your facilitation of this meeting ensures that our College for Kids program will continue to grow and evolve with great success and with a focus on safety.

Kudos!

Klohie Roche; Klohie initiated, arranged, and managed the Fall semester Wing Ceremony for the Aviation Division. This ceremony is to celebrate the achievement of the pilots who complete the program. Klohie took on a huge responsibility including scheduling the ceremony, managing all of the attendees and their guests, ordering the food and decorations, and managing a small group of volunteers to make it all happen. She did all of this on her own time outside her normal duties as a Flight Instructor for the program. Today I saw all of the hard work come together as the final setup was completed for the ceremony.

Kaitlyn DeBoer; Kaitlyn was wandering by when a huge order came in for the NMC Food Pantry. She stepped up and helped for an hour to haul, unpack, and shelve various foods and hygiene products for our students. Thank you, Kaitlyn, for your impromptu help!

Records and Registration; Kudos to the Records and Registration department for their work to prepare the Spring and Summer schedules and configure Banner for registration next week. We are ready to go!

Student Government Association; Kudos to the SGA for their work. They are an open and welcoming group that provides opportunities for all students to get involved. We appreciate them.

Frank Jabour; I would like to give kudos to Frank Jabour for bringing home the Aviation Division’s newest airplane. Frank sacrificed his weekend and time away from home to fly to Kansas to bring home our airplane. He and the Assistant Chief Flight Instructor navigated challenging weather and demonstrated safe and effective risk management strategies to help the program grow. Thank you Frank!

Bilal Sheikh; I would like to give kudos to Bilal Sheikh for bringing home the Aviation Division’s newest airplane. Bilal sacrificed his weekend and time away from home to fly to Kansas to bring home our airplane. He and the Chief Flight Instructor navigated challenging weather and demonstrated safe and effective risk management strategies to help the program grow. Thank you Bilal!

Marcus Bennett and Ali Thornton; Thank you to Marcus Bennett and Ali Thornton for facilitating the Book Read: Understanding Jim Crow. The questions and discussions among the group were thoughtful and insightful. I hope NMC provides more opportunities for book discussions like this!

Kudos to Carolyn Andrews: Congratulations to Carolyn Andrews and her team for another wonderful Building Tomorrow event. Students were engaged and eager to learn about the different programs NMC has to offer.

Kudos to Kristy Jackson & The Extended Education & Training Team: College for Kids, in its 47th year, served 745 unique students ages 3-17 this summer with classes from Geology Rocks with NMC Instructor Tiffani Wilke, Instant Rock Bootcamp with NMC Instructor Brady Corcoran, to Model-Makers: Build a Sustainable Demonstration House with MTU instructor Jay Meldrum, and 85 more experiential and exceptional classes! Kristy Jackson, College for Kids Program Manager, and the Extended Education & Training team held the most financially successful College for Kids summer term on record. Net revenue* increased profit per seat by 49% from last year in 2023. Expenses decreased by 40% from 2023. Kudos!

Kudos to Alyssa Irani; Alyssa has worked diligently to submit documentation and complete the required tasks for the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency, helping NMC achieve Gold level status as a Veteran Friendly School for the 2024-2025 academic year. The Michigan Veteran-Friendly Schools Program recognizes academic institutions committed to supporting the needs of veterans and military-connected students. Institutions are awarded Gold-, Silver-, and Bronze-level status based on their veteran-centric services and programs. The Gold level is the highest designation awarded and the Gold level status not only recognizes the excellence of these institutions but also serves as a benchmark for others to aspire to in their efforts to support veterans and military-connected students. Congrats to Alyssa and the Veteran Services team!

Kudos to Robin Maloney; We are thankful for Robin Maloney’s professionalism and attention to detail. She regularly communicates with the library staff about the cleanliness of the library– which looks great, by the way!

Even though facilities is down four custodial positions and has been for quite some time, Robin cleaned a very difficult to access area that had been bothering us all (pesky flies on the high stairway window ledge). She thinks about the campus as the students’ home away from home and makes it welcoming. Robin exemplifies the NMC value of quality stewardship.

Kudos to Denny Nguyen; Denny has an amazing capacity for processing data and having it make sense for the rest of us! He recently was charged with a request that required extensive research, years and years of compiled data, and an eye for accuracy. He rose to the challenge, did the hard work (which was in addition to all of his other workload),produced an excellent end product and all the while with a gracious smile on his face. NMC is so fortunate to have someone like Denny holding up the NMC Values of Integrity, Collaboration, Respect, Stewardship and Excellence. THANK YOU Denny!

Kudos to Danielle Quinlan; Danielle Quinlan has been in her role as the Office Manager for NMC Extended Education & Training now for almost a year. Danielle very successfully took on the project of planning and conducting our first formal instructor meeting at the Timothy J. Nelson Innovation Center. Danielle worked with the Extended Education team to put together an instructor handbook and assembled instructor folders and name tags for each Extended Education instructor. We had a full house of instructors (over 20) and received excellent feedback, mostly around how much a sense of belonging this meeting created for them. They also reported how much they enjoyed hearing what other instructors were teaching this fall, from The Origin & Meaning of the Second Amendment, to the Art of Crossword Construction, to Functional Fitness (Kyle Morrison!) to Digital Essentials (Ali Thornton) – it was wonderful to see our instructors get to know each other a bit (and be interested in each other’s classes!). At Extended Education & Training, as the Office Manager & Registration Specialist, Danielle has made it her mission to ensure that every student, instructor, and staff member feels informed and welcome, and a sense of belonging. Thank you, Danielle!

Kudos!

Kudos to Ricky Hagberg, Michelle Beckett and Shane Reed. Ricky, Michelle, and Shane from the Technology Help Desk did such outstanding work the first-week faculty returned and again the first-week students returned. They helped over 150 walkups the first week students returned, plus hundreds and hundreds of phone calls and chats! Their knowledge and expertise are showing as more and more employees and students reach out to the Technology Help Desk with simple to very complex issues. I can't say THANK YOU enough to this team for their professionalism, patience, integrity, and overall willingness to support NMC in all things technology! Props to you 3!.
