Kudos to the following people and departments!

Kudos to Lisa Boike:  Retaining students from semester to semester is a key function of the Enrollment Management and Student Services areas, and academic departments, but is truly the task of every single person here at NMC. Retention of students is essential to our continued operation as an institution of higher education and can be impacted on a daily basis and with every single interaction with students. This week, Lisa Boike responded to an urgent help desk ticket requesting a Banner report to help us communicate, in a very targeted way, with students who are currently registered for fall semester but have not enrolled for spring semester. Although she had many other tasks at hand, Lisa recognized the importance of this information and created a customized report for us. This report will enable our areas to begin outreach to these students immediately. Thank you!

Kudos to Cathy McCall:  Kudos to Cathy McCall for her work on the annual Five Year Capital Plan that is required by the State of Michigan. This is a large document with valuable information that requires input from several people on campus. You can view this document at: https://www.nmc.edu/departments/presidents-office/planning-budget-council/index.html

Kudos to Robert Scott and the entire Hawk Owl Cafe staff for excellent customer service. One of NMC’s Foundation Board members had lunch in the cafe recently and commented on the outstanding customer service he received from the staff. The customer service focus is apparent to those of us who frequent the cafe daily. It also shows in the number of students who fill the cafe each day. Thanks to all of you for your outstanding service! Well done.

Kudos to Jeff Cobb and the music department for the High School Choral Invitational presented in the Milliken Auditorium this week. The audience was treated to an extraordinary experience. What beautiful music and voices! The experience made my day! Marguerite Cotto

Kudos to Sherry Trier and Michelle Schneider as they gave selflessly and tirelessly of themselves in support of NMC’s 4th Annual Veterans Day Event. Their passion, thoughtfulness, enthusiasm, and sincerity were not only refreshing, but a shining example of why NMC is ranked 5th in the nation among community colleges for its service to veterans.

Kudos to Tina Ulrich for piloting an experiment in Open Educational Resources this semester. NMC students pocketed an extra $137,000 this semester thanks to instructors using free and low-cost textbooks. Led by Tina, she assisted 10 other instructors to redesign their courses using free textbooks and other resources, often found online.

Kudos to Paul Perry and the NMC Grounds Crew-  In addition to the great job they do on a daily basis to maintain our campus, Paul and his team went above and beyond in preparation for NMC’s Veterans Day event. They not only ensured that the Honor Walk/Flag Ceremony area was perfectly manicured, but allocated their efforts in helping set up the flags around campus.
