Harlem Gospel Choir performance at Dennos selected as Arts Midwest’s Performing Arts Fund online Spotlight

ArtsMidwest.org’s June Spotlight is last January’s performance of the Harlem Gospel Choir’s March performance at the Dennos Museum Center’s Milliken Auditorium.

Arts Midwest awarded the Dennos a grant that was used to support the performance and helped make the workshop between the Harlem Gospel Choir and NMC Choir possible.

The sold-out concert provided what Dennos Museum Center Executive Director Gene Jenneman described as a “truly unique experience for our students.”

Singing With The Choir

A choir made up of member of the NMC Grand Traverse Chorale and the NMC Chamber Singers, about 45, participated in a workshop with the Harlem Gospel Choir. During the workshop, the HGC talked to about their history, their approach, and their mission. We talked about musical singing styles – specifically gospel music. They taught us the number we performed with them,“O Happy Day,” in about 20 minutes.  It was a great experience for the choirs!
