The Dennos Museum Center at Northwestern Michigan College presents Tall Tales from a Large Man on June 19, 2015 at 7pm, in conjunction with the exhibition, Sideways: Exploring Skateboard Art + Culture, May 31 – September 6, 2015. The event kicks off a weekend of art, skateboarding, and music that will take place at the Museum and Civic Center Skate Park on June 20-21. More details will be available online at dennosmuseum.org.

The Dennos Museum Center at Northwestern Michigan College will present Nagata Shachu a taiko (Japanese drum) ensemble, on Friday April 17, 2015 at 8:00 in the Milliken Auditorium of the Dennos Museum Center. Tickets for the concert are $27 in advance ($24 for museum members) and $30 at the door. While firmly rooted in the folk drumming traditions found throughout Japan, Nagata Shachu has worked to rejuvenate and redefine this ancient art form ensuring its relevance for the present. The ensemble produces challenging and dynamic works that seek to create a new voice for the taiko. (more…)

Viewing Inuit Art in Toronto
Join Dennos Museum Store Manage Terry Tarnow, and other museum staff, April 23-26, 2015, for an excursion to the Inuit Showrooms in Toronto, Ontario. This trip gives collectors an opportunity to visit four Inuit showrooms not usually open to the public. For the collector it is a wonderful opportunity to purchase carvings, prints, textiles and gift items.
Travel day is Thursday, April 26 and all guests travel on their own and meet in Toronto where a block of rooms has been reserved at the Bond Place Hotel. Friday will be a non-stop day of visiting four Inuit showrooms. Saturday the group will visit museums and galleries in the Toronto area. (more…)
