Michigan Senate passes Community College Baccalaureate bill

Late last night House Bill 4496 (the Community College Baccalaureate Authorization bill) passed the Senate and won concurrence in the House of Representatives. It is now headed to the Governor for his signature.

This bill authorizes community colleges in Michigan to offer technical bachelor’s degrees in maritime technology, cement technology, energy production technology, and culinary arts. The senate vote was 20 to 17 and the House vote was 65 to 44.

Season of giving

Are you looking for that perfect gift for someone who has everything? Why not give a gift to the NMC Annual Campaign in honor of someone you care about?

United Way campaign update

So far we’ve raised $3,867, which is 77% of our $5,000 goal for the annual United Way Campaign. Remember, you may designate your gift to the local non-profit organization of your choice – Cherryland Humane Society, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Women’s Resource Center, Northwestern Michigan College’s Annual Campaign – the list is large!

Kudos

Kudos to everyone involved in the remodel of our gym. Just returned today for the first time since the new equipment was installed, and it’s a great improvement and a good deal for employees at $30 a semester! ‘Tis the season…

To Friends and Students of Jill Hinds

We are asking for words of encouragement and support for Jill in this difficult time. Just write whatever comes to mind. It could be a good memory, or kindness, student achievement, or something funny. We know that Jill has touched many lives in a very good and positive way and she would greatly appreciate hearing from all of you. In a recent conversation Lisa had with Jill, she shared that teaching was one of the most important things that she did and she was very proud to hear of her students’ achievements.

There’s still time to support our community!

We’re at 75% of our $5,000 goal for the annual United Way Campaign. Please consider
a gift to help our neighbors in need. If you’ve misplaced the donation form sent to you last month, or need more information, please contact Cheri Paul in Human Resources at cpaul@nmc.edu or 5-1026.
