Mark was born and raised in the Detroit area and earned a bachelor’s degree in International Studies and a master’s degree in Labor and Industrial Relations, both from Michigan State. Mark has worked in Human Resources for more than 20 years, in both specialist and generalist roles, in companies including Walt Disney, Microsoft, Lehman Brothers and MasterCard. A passion to experience life abroad led him to take regional HR assignments based in Australia, Malaysia, Japan and Korea, ultimately spending 17 of the past 20 years overseas. It was in 2002 in Tokyo that Mark met his wife, Huiseon (pronounced Heesun), while studying at a Japanese language school. Mark and Huiseon have 2 children Daniel (6) and Romy (2) and have recently relocated from Seoul to Traverse City. In addition to spending time with his family, Mark enjoys beaches and trails, cooking (and eating!), and is proud to have finished marathons in Honolulu, Naha and Tokyo. (more…)

Betsy has worked as an independent contractor for the past four years with the Training Services Division of NMC as a Training Specialist. Betsy is a former travel executive and consultant, with over 30 years of statewide operational development, human resources, corporate sales and management experience. She has arranged and led a variety of groups traveling the globe and enjoys sharing her travel adventures. A native of Birmingham, Michigan, Betsy attended NMC’s law enforcement program. She has volunteered in many local and civic and private programs. She currently sits on the board of the the Traverse Area Human Resource Association and the State Board of the Michigan Lean Consortium. Betsy, her husband Mark, and daughter Lia enjoy spending time doing all northern Michigan outdoor activities.

Mark West joined NMC as Lead Accounting Assistant on June 29, 2015. He can be reached at (231) 995-1140 or mwest@nmc.edu.
Mark was born in Indiana, but was raised and went to school in Traverse City. He graduated high school from Traverse City Senior High in 1989 and then went to NMC to acquire my Associates degree. From there he traveled to Big Rapids and went to School at Ferris State University and received a dual bachelors degree in Accounting and Finance in 1993-94. Once out of college Mark spent the next 21 years working for Oil Energy Corp a natural gas exploration company in Traverse City as a Staff Accountant. He was married to his wife Sarah in 1995 and they have two boys Matthew and Nathan. Mark love to bowl, watch football, and travel with his family. (more…)

Sarah grew up in Minnesota and Iowa, and received a BA in Family Science from Anderson University in Anderson, Indiana, then moved to Traverse City about 15 years ago. Over the last few years, she has held several positions, including Director of Education at Abba’s House, and Scheduler at Children’s Therapy Corner. Sarah enjoys fiber arts, and is one of the Michigan makers selling pieces at My Secret Stash in downtown Traverse City, and she also teaches piano at The Beat Lab. (more…)
