March 31, 2014, is the deadline to enroll for health care coverage for 2014 on the Health Insurance Marketplace .  If you do not have health coverage by the end of March, you may be subject to a fee of either 1% of your income, or $95 per adult ($47.50 per child), whichever is higher, paid on your 2015 income taxes.

However, the Obama administration has now decided to give extra time to Americans who say that they are unable to enroll in health plans through the federal insurance marketplace by the March 31 deadline.

According to the Washington Post on 3/25/14, Federal officials confirmed Tuesday evening that all consumers who have begun to apply for coverage on HealthCare.gov, but who do not finish by Monday, will have until about mid-April to ask for an extension.
