Students will learn about the history of quilts in America with an emphasis on the emergence and growth of contemporary quilt-making. They will have an opportunity to examine contemporary quilts made by Gwen Marston, in the exhibition, Gwen Marston: Contemporary Quilts, as well as traditional and contemporary quilts from the instructor’s collection. Students will make their own contemporary quilt to explore shape, color, line, texture, design, and value. They will use basic materials and tools typically used in making quilts.
