Leadership. A critical part of any workplace, it’s easily noticed when absent, but much harder to deliver.
Recognizing the importance of doing so, however, a group of NMC faculty and staff spent the last six months focusing on the foundations of leadership at the college. As the annual employee and professional development review process begins, you’re invited to consider joining them.
Through monthly skill-building sessions, individual goal-setting, application to daily work, and colleague support, the participants gained competencies that will increase their effectiveness as supervisors, managers, and directors or as project leads, shared governance and committee leaders.
What did they find most valuable?
• A comprehensive new feedback tool that drew input from colleagues, direct reports, and supervisors on strengths and areas for growth.
• Time with the Foundation Board representatives, vice presidents and other college leaders
• Learning from each other’s stories and experiences.
What changes do they recommend?
Providing mentors as well as more online resources topped their list. They also agreed the experience needs to spend more time on inspiring collaboration and innovation. “It’s the key to our future.”
