Dear Colleagues:

I would like to share an important next step in our relationship with a long-standing economic development partner, and what this means to our programs and services supporting workforce and economic development.

NMC has had a very successful 27-year partnership with the Michigan Manufacturing Technology Center (MMTC) through their manufacturing-focused training grants. These resources have underwritten staffing and programming within NMC Training Services and, through the availability of the New Jobs Training Program that NMC administers, greatly enhanced services to regional employers.

Effective July 1, 2019, NMC and MMTC are changing the grant structure, with the following outcomes:

  • NMC Training Services will become the Northern Lower Office of MMTC. Offices remain at Parsons-Stulen and the full staff will be part of the state-wide MMTC network.
  • Workforce and professional development courses will expand under Extended Educational Services, which will become NMC’s common portal for non-manufacturing employee development and professional development, including Portfolio B enterprises.
  • Our collaborative relationship continues through a formal MOU to ensure a smooth transition with our staff, employers and clients. Over the next few weeks, you’ll see cross-referencing on key NMC webpages as we update information.
  • Financial analysis of this transition (change of MMTC grant, MMTC acquisition of Training Services, expansion EES programming) is designed to be budget neutral in FY20.
