Have you ever wanted a classroom of one? Consider being a Big Brother or Big Sister mentor to a child. There are no tests to administer, no assignments to grade – just a child waiting for a friend.
Big Brothers Big Sisters is seeking volunteers for its community- and school-based mentoring programs. Men: you’re ESPECIALLY needed, as the boys on our waitlists for a mentor are ever-increasing.
In either program, volunteers are able to make an impact by spending a few hours of quality one-on-one time with a child each month. In the school-based program, volunteers visit with the child at school once each week during their lunch/recess break. Time spent together typically involves playing games, doing puzzles, reading, playing in the gym or on the playground, or eating lunch and chatting. The community-based program extends year-round and allows the volunteer the flexibility to meet with the child when convenient each month, outside the school grounds. Your best gift is your time and simply being yourself.
We work closely with our volunteers to match them with a child who will enjoy their time and talents and provide a friendship that is beneficial and rewarding.
Additionally, if you have any students whom you feel would make good Bigs, please encourage them to consider volunteering in one of our nearby school-based mentoring programs.
