If you encounter someone who you believe is suffering a cardiac arrest:

  1. Call 911. The 911 dispatcher will ask you about your emergency. Describe the situation then follow the directions from the dispatcher.
  2. Yell for help—get others nearby to assist you. This takes the pressure off of you having to do it all yourself.
  3. Direct someone to get an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) machine and administer treatment. An AED should be used when a person is unconscious, unresponsive and not breathing properly, indicating potential cardiac arrest. AEDs are located in a public area of all campus buildings. See a list of locations on this page. The video below from the American Red Cross shows how to properly use an AED when necessary.
  4. Direct someone to call the Campus Security at (231) 995-1111.
