Rebecca Mericle (2)The staff of the Osterlin Library would like to acknowledge the work and lifelong contributions to libraries in Traverse City on the occasion of Rebecca Mericle’s death on June 2, 2015.

Rebecca earned a B.A. from Wayne State University and a B.S. in Library Science from Simmons College in Boston.  After graduation she worked at the Detroit Public Library before moving back to her home on the Old Mission Peninsula.  She was one of the founders and first librarian of the shared Old Mission School/Peninsula Community Library.  Rebecca left the Old Mission library to work in the new Osterlin Library at NMC for the 1960/61 school year and served as assistant librarian until she retired in 1980.  One of her lasting achievements was the indexing of the Traverse City Record Eagle.
