It’s hard to believe that we’ve just recently “sprung forward” and spring is surely on its way. That also means we’re getting ready to close out the third quarter of FY’15 and move into the home stretch for the year. This is a great time to take stock of both your departmental level operational plan goals as well as your personal goals in myPDCA.

Some of the key goals of an effective check are:

  • Recognize and celebrate accomplishments
  • Adjust course by addressing barriers and recognizing shifting priorities
  • Review target vs. actual and discuss strategies for closing the gap
  • Capture and share learning

Take a look at the left side of your department A3 (or Page 2 in the Word version) where you’ve detailed “This Year’s Action Plan”. Review each goal and activity by asking the following questions:

  • What is the target?
  • What is the current state – where are we now?
  • What obstacles are preventing us from reaching the targets? Which ones are being addressed now?
  • What is the next step?
  • By when?

A tool for effective check can be found on the planning intranet pages here. Additionally, tools for conducting effective checks of your individual goals are available here under Step Five.
