Kudos to the following people and departments!

Kudos to NMC faculty who won top honors at the LAND Conference in Grand Rapids last week. NMC faculty won top honors in two of three categories (student, adjunct, full-time) for best conference presentations. Fellow LAND attendees cast ballots.

  • Adjunct Faculty, 1st Place: Teresa Scollon, “Five Ways to Use Poetry to Teach Even if You Don’t Get Poetry”
  • Full-time Faculty, 2nd Place: Regis McCord, “Five Things in Thirty-five Years (or one thing every two minutes!): Reflections of a Slow Learner and a Fast Talker”
  • Full-time Faculty, 1st Place: Melissa Sprenkle, Michael Anderson, and Susan Odgers, “Whose Writing Workshop is it Anyway?”

In addition, NMC was awarded this year’s Institutional Excellence Award (and a check for $1000!) for Melissa, Michael, and Susan’s work with the Homeless Writing Workshop.

Kudos also to Nancy Parshall, who in these past years as both an officer and president has taken the LAND Conference to new heights. Her visionary thinking and steadfast leadership have helped birth LAND’s invigorating “lightening talks” format. Many thanks, Nancy, for your many years of service and dedication!

Kudos to Jim White, Director of Security, for working with a third party to offer NMC employees Critical Incident Management Training last Friday, February 6th, at the Hagerty Center. The event was well attended and is a critical part of serving our students.

Kudos to Cathy McCall, Sara Budzik and Holly Gorton for their work collaborating with all departments to create a Record Retention and Disposal Schedule to be submitted to the State of Michigan Department of Education, Records Management Services. NMC is only the second community college in the state to submit this document. The State approved the submission on February 3, 2015.

Kudos to Scott Herzberg and his chefs who prepared some awesome tasting chili. It’s good that the building is fire proof. There were some very “hot-and spicy” ones! Thanks Vets!
