Our Fires Still Burn: The Native American Experience at Dennos Museum Center, December 5

As part of its monthly film series in collaboration with CMU Public Broadcasting, the Dennos Museum Center presents Our Fires Still Burn: The Native American Experience on Thursday, December 5, at 7:00pm. The film is free to attend and includes light refreshments and a panel discussion with the filmmaker. Milliken Auditorium now features a T-coil hearing loop for those with hearing impairments. Go Global- International Fair and Expo on Nov. 16

As part of International Education Week, the Go Global Fair and Expo will be held at the Dennos Museum and Scholars Hall on Saturday, Nov. 16. It will include food, displays, breakout sessions, musical performances and more.

The day includes a variety of great breakout sessions including:

Cinema Beyond Borders: Sentient Stories From Afar, by Deb Lake, Executive Director of the Traverse City Film Festival, at noon, in Scholars Hall 105.

Remembering Al Shumsky

It is with sad hearts that we report the death of Al Shumsky on November 10, 2013. From 1957-1995 Al was a faculty member at NMC where he taught many English courses, but specialized in creative writing and linguistics. He was head of the English Department and Director of the Communications Division from 1962-1987 and in 1990 was recipient of the Imogene Wise Faculty Excellence Award. He was named an NMC Fellow in 1997. (more…)

Remembering Michael Ouwerkerk

Our thoughts of comfort and healing go out to the family and friends of Michael Ouwerkerk, who passed away at age 79 on November 5, 2013. Mike worked at NMC from 1968-91, beginning here as an accountant. His position upon retirement was Director of Business and Financial Affairs. (more…)

New improved WiFi coming to NMC

The NMC Board of Trustees has approved funding for a campus-wide network project that will improve WiFi access on all of NMC’s campuses.  The project is designed to support the evolving methods of teaching and learning and to increase accessibility to learning resources to students, faculty and staff.

As part of the Dennos concert series Global Opportunity programming we are proud to present the Tuvan throat singing group Alash on November 16 at 8 PM in Milliken Auditorium. The Shape of a Girl comes to the Dennos on Nov. 22

The Dennos Museum Center will present The Shape of a Girl on Friday, November 22, at 9:30am and 11:30am as part of its educational performance series. Tickets for K-12 students and teachers are $5 per person until November 8, and then $6 per person until the date of the performance. Sunday with a Ranger program rescheduled by Dennos Museum for Nov. 17

Sunday with a Ranger has been rescheduled for November 17. The Dennos Museum Center at Northwestern Michigan College presents several family programs in conjunction with the 2013-2014 exhibition season. Family programs are held throughout the year to offer family-friendly educational opportunities in Traverse City. All programs are open to visitors with paid museum admission. (more…)
