Kudos to Cathlyn Sommerfield, Beckie Wooters, Laura Korch, Lisa Blackford, Rachel Wilczewski, Jerry Dobek, Jennifer Tripp, and John Zachman. Kudos to Cathlyn Sommerfield, Beckie Wooters, Laura Korch, Lisa Blackford, Rachel Wilczewski, Jerry Dobek, Jennifer Tripp and John Zachman for completing the professional development series EL 101 through the Experiential Learning Institute. These participants learned various experiential learning concepts and created Experiential Learning Opportunities (ELOs) for their courses!
Kudos to Joelle Hannert. Joelle has skillfully stepped into liaison and event planning roles that are above and beyond the scope of her regular work. Thanks to Joelle, you may see our youngest library users, the littles from the NMC daycare, tucked into booths in the NMC Library, reading picture books from our collection. You may have participated in the interactive DIY Zine table that Joelle created and facilitated as part of Dennos StoryPalooza. You may coordinate an event with Joelle, using the library space and/or the Library of Things collection. You may enjoy a book walk that celebrates diversity and literacy – Joelle has three planned for the spring and summer – keep your eyes out for them as you stroll the campus. Joelle is more than great hair, mastery of cataloging, or mad skills with a spreadsheet. She’s creative and collaborative and the campus-wide connections she made on behalf of the library this year would not have happened without her!.
Kudos to Sarah Denniston. Sarah is always so quick and helpful looking into our requests when new swag is needed. She even anticipates our needs and lets us know when she finds a new product that may better fit our needs is released. Thank you, Sarah!
Experts suggest maintaining an “attitude of gratitude” increases positivity for yourself and for others. Please encourage your colleagues by submitting a KUDOS. Let them know you appreciate their hard work and are thinking of them!

NMC has expanded its student housing inventory! Effective today, NMC is the new owner of the property located at 1550 and 1560 E. Front St. The property sits across the road from our main campus, directly North of the Cambria Suites, and consists of two 12-unit apartment buildings, a detached cabin, a shed, and two carports. This acquisition adds 25 units (mostly 2-bedroom) to NMC’s capacity, addressing the high demand for this type of on-campus housing.
Key points:
- Existing tenants will be able to stay until June 30, 2024 or their leases expire, whichever is later.
- NMC students currently living there will be able to stay provided they meet enrollment requirements.
- Previous ownership has remodeled 17 of the 25 units in recent years. NMC intends to carry on with this plan and remodel the remaining 8 units as they become available this calendar year. Our ambitious goal is to have all units updated and available for students by January 1st, 2025. Some units will be available for students as early as May.
- This addition will help reduce pressure on the community’s housing market and offer more affordable options for NMC students. This property also has excess land for future development / expansion of units as needed or directed by our campus master plan.
- This is not the same property NMC leased in the early 2010’s before North Hall was constructed (formerly known as “The Hawk’s Nest”).
If you have questions, please contact Troy Kierczynski, VP of Finance and Administration at tkierczynski@nmc.edu or (231) 995-1147, or Emilee Bruner at apartments@nmc.edu.

Kudos to the 2nd Shift Custodians. After the NMC Gala event on Friday, April 5 at the Dennos Museum, the building was quite dirty with a lot of glitter and trash. The 2nd shift custodians that could spare some additional time to help came and helped clean up so one or two custodians did not have to stay late, It was awesome seeing so many work together!
Kudos to Hannah Rodriguez. Kudos to Hannah Rodrigues and the Student Success Coaches for partnering with the Experiential Learning Institute to provide a Lunch and Learn around study strategies and finishing the semester strong. Her team provided resources and study strategies to NMC students who attended the workshop.
Kudos to Brittany Hanbury. Brittany has demonstrated incredible work on her recent recruiting efforts for NMC. She has taken on additional responsibilities while covering for a colleague on leave and has done so in a truly remarkable way! Thank you, Brittany, for stepping up and keeping everything moving on time and on track! You are a true professional and NMC is so fortunate to have your talent!
