The entire NMC community is invited to attend the third Body of Music presentation at 6 p.m. Thursday, December 4th at 6 p.m. in Fine Arts 115.
Body of Music is a continuing collaboration between Audio Tech students and Anatomy and Physiology students. The intention of this project is to musically and visually represent a human body system, condition, or disease. Student teams discuss and analyze a body system, then create an original music score to enhance a visual representation of that system.

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is bringing back its “Road Watchers” program in the northern Lower Peninsula this winter, and seeks both returning and new volunteers to report on road maintenance efforts. (more…)

Friday Forums will occur one Friday each month through April. These forums are brought to you by the Center for Instructional Excellence which supports student learning by encouraging faculty-driven initiatives, promoting development of faculty knowledge, and recognizing the achievement of excellence. December’s Friday Forum will take place on Friday, Dec. 5 from noon-1:30pm in Founders Hall 110 and addresses the question: What about the other life factors that are keeping students from succeeding? Lunch is provided, good conversation is guaranteed.

This is a reminder that the Student Life office can assist students with mental health concerns, as well as a variety of other personal needs. If you know of a student who is struggling mentally with stress, depression or anxiety, they can offer personal counseling services free of charge to all students. They can also help students get connected with other community resources for help with housing, food assistance, child care and transportation. (more…)
Grand Traverse area girls will learn how to make strides in non-traditional careers at the thirteenth annual GirlTECH Friday, November 21, 2014 at NMC’s Parsons-Stulen Building.
GirlTECH was developed to encourage high school girls enrolled in any Traverse Bay Area Intermediate School District school to consider non-traditional careers, defined as those careers in which women comprise 25 percent or less of the workforce.
Multiple speakers will discuss their career paths network with students. Non-traditional students from NMC and the TBA Career-Tech Center will present students with information about local training programs for high school junior and seniors and NMC programs.
Event sponsors include NMC, the American Association of University Women, Traverse Bay Area Career-Tech Center, Benzie Area Zonta Club and the Zonta Club of Leelanau County.

The 2014 NMC Challenge winner is the Aviation Department! They donated a total of 159 items. They will be enjoying their catered meal from Spaghetti Jim’s.
Second place was Advising with a total of 124 items and third place was the Business Academic Area with 101.
Thank you so much to all of the departments, faculty and staff who participated. The students enjoyed learning about all of our different areas on campus. NMC collected a total of 901 items. As a class they collected over 24,000 items and filled 15 pantries. (more…)
