This spring Northwestern Michigan College is offering a fun way to show off your inner superhero while benefiting the children of our community.

On Saturday, April 11, NMC’s Professional Communications class will host The Big Little Hero Race on the college’s main campus. All proceeds will go directly to Northern Michigan’s Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Community members of all ages are invited to dress up as their favorite superhero and run for a good cause throughout Traverse City’s beautiful Old Mission Peninsula. (more…)

Inuit art buying trip to Toronto Galleries, April 23-26, 2015

Viewing Inuit Art in Toronto

Join Dennos Museum Store Manage Terry Tarnow, and other museum staff, April 23-26, 2015, for an excursion to the Inuit Showrooms in Toronto, Ontario. This trip gives collectors an opportunity to visit four Inuit showrooms not usually open to the public. For the collector it is a wonderful opportunity to purchase carvings, prints, textiles and gift items.

Travel day is Thursday, April 26 and all guests travel on their own and meet in Toronto where a block of rooms has been reserved at the Bond Place Hotel. Friday will be a non-stop day of visiting four Inuit showrooms. Saturday the group will visit museums and galleries in the Toronto area. (more…)

The Dennos Museum Center at Northwestern Michigan College will present Mike + Ruthy on Friday, March 27, 2015 at 8:00 PM in Milliken Auditorium. Tickets are $25 advance, $28 at the door and $22 for museum members plus fees. 2015 marks Ruth Ungar & Mike Merenda’s 16th year of musical collaboration. From their humble start whacking ukuleles at the Sidewalk Café’s “anti-hoot” open-mic on New York City’s Avenue A to singing down fascism with Pete Seeger and Arlo Guthrie at Carnegie Hall with string-band revivalists, The Mammals, Mike + Ruthy show no sign of coming up for air anytime soon. 2015 Sack Lunch and Learn nutrition session

On March 20, from noon to 1 p.m. come to Beckett 136 for a presentation on discovering the best kept secret to losing weight and lowering cholesterol.

Calling all Superheroes!

TRAVERSE CITY — This spring Northwestern Michigan College is offering a fun way to show off your inner superhero while benefiting the children of our community.

On Saturday, April 11, NMC’s Professional Communications class will host The Big Little Hero Race on the college’s main campus. All proceeds will go directly to Northern Michigan’s Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Community members of all ages are invited to dress up as their favorite superhero and run for a good cause throughout Traverse City’s beautiful Old Mission Peninsula. The Hero Race includes:

  • Free, untimed one mile fun run/walk starting at 9 a.m.
  • Timed 5k starting at 9:30 a.m.
  • Timed 10k starting at 9:30 a.m.

Prizes will be awarded for top runners, costumes and teams. Every child entered will get a free superhero cape and mask and can enjoy face painting, food, and games after the race.

Registration is open now. All runners who register by March 23 will be guaranteed a Big Little Hero Race collectors technical t-shirt. Registration is $35 for the 10K, $30 for the 5K, and just $15 for students. The one mile fun run is free for all.

Big Brothers Big Sisters helps children in need reach their potential through professionally supported, one-to-one mentoring relationships with volunteers.

The Dennos announces a call for entries – Skateboard Exhibition

SkateThe Dennos Museum Center at Northwestern Michigan College in collaboration with local designers, artists, and skaters, will present an exhibition of skateboard design, art, and culture in the summer of 2015. Opening May 31, Sideways: Exploring Skateboard Art + Culture, will feature art and design from Aaron Draplin, Jason Abraham Smith, and Yoonhyup; photography from Mike Blabac; and approximately 50 decks designed by local and regional artists. The Dennos brings art to Greenspire

The Dennos Museum Center at Northwestern Michigan College is proud to present the exhibition, It’s Our World: Artists Inspired by Children’s Visions of the Future, at The Greenspire School from February 20 through March 20, 2015. The exhibition was first shown at the Dennos in the fall of 2014, and has gained new life as a traveling exhibition available to local schools. (more…)

No other software platform has been able to create or support a well-rounded and thorough product to seriously threaten their market share. Google through their Google Apps has taken the basic functionality of Microsoft Office products like Word and Excel an added a very unique feature that works well with the established Microsoft Office programs. The feature allows documents to be created in Drive or Microsoft Word, and then allow, people to work on the same document at the same time and see the changes made in real time. (more…)

CIE’s Friday Forum for March focuses on helping students produce stronger writing

Friday Forums will occur one Friday each month through April. These forums are brought to you by the Center for Instructional Excellence which supports student learning by encouraging faculty-driven initiatives, promoting development of faculty knowledge, and recognizing the achievement of excellence. March’s Friday Forum will take place on Friday, March 6 from noon-1:30 p.m. in Founders Hall 110 and addresses the question: How can we help our students produce stronger writing in every class? Lunch is provided, good conversation is guaranteed.
