Located in the Welcome Center in the Health & Science Building on NMC’s main campus, Dress for Success is open to anyone in the community. Donated professional clothing for both men and women in all sizes will be available at no cost. Fitting rooms will be available to try on clothes.
Other professional services available include resume writing tips and critique, and mock interviews.
- Resume critique: Bring a copy of your resume for review by one of several local human resources professionals
- Mock interviews: Practice makes perfect. Conduct a one-on-one interview with a local human resources professional.

The Dennos Museum Center at Northwestern Michigan College is offering artists an opportunity to create small works of art and sell them at the museum. The Small Works sale has been organized to benefit artists and art patrons. There is no application fee or jury process for the sale. If the work of art fits the size and price parameters it will be allowed in the sale. The Museum hopes that the sale will give artists some extra cash and encourage patrons to buy original art at an affordable price. This is the fourth year of the Small Works sale.

A former Iraqi ambassador to the United Nations and one of the key figures in Iraq over the past decade, Feisal Amin Rasoul Istrabadi, will speak on “Rebuilding the Rule of Law in Iraq” at an International Affairs Forum lecture at 6 p.m. April 19 in Milliken Auditorium.
Istrabadi is presently the founding director of the Indiana University Center for the Study of the Middle East. He is also University Scholar in International Law and Diplomacy, with his academic appointment in the Maurer School of Law.
From 2004-2007 he was Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary and Deputy Permanent Representative of Iraq to the United Nations. He also was principal legal drafter of the Iraqi interim constitution of 2004. Based on his experiences in post-2003 Iraq, he focuses his research on constitutional issues, problems in engendering rule-of-law institutions, and post-conflict justice issues in the Middle East.
Before contributing to the reconstruction of Iraq, he was a practicing trial lawyer in the United States for 15 years,
The program begins with a reception in the Sculpture Court of the Dennos Museum Center at 5:15 p.m. and is followed at 6 p.m. by the lecture and a discussion period in Milliken Auditorium.
Individual lecture ticket are $10. All current educators and students are admitted free. For tickets or more or information, call NMC Extended Education Services at 995-1700.

The NMC Writing and Reading Center is now hiring new readers for the 2012-2013 school year. Please send your dedicated students our way. The WRC’s success is based on its readers. Help us to make next year our best one yet.
Successful readers are students who have not only shown they are strong writers, but also adept at communicating with other student writers. Often they are the ones that many in the classroom turn to for assistance or clarification. The key to working in the WRC is the ability to express ideas and give clear feedback.

The annual
Employee Engagement Survey concluded last week with 399 employees participating for an overall response rate of 65.5%. Chelsea Parsch was the winner of the final Best Buy gift card. Chelsea is a supplemental employee with the Hagerty Center where she is a banquet cook. She is also a Great Lakes Culinary Institute student. Congratulations to Chelsea as well as to Brad Wortman and Jeff Send who were also gift card winners!
Thanks to all of you who shared your feedback via this annual survey. The results will be released in May and will provide information for our continuous quality improvement efforts.

This week is your last chance to take an online survey about what you watch on TV, what you listen to on the radio, what you read in print or online, and the ways you prefer to be contacted with new information. The survey instructions say that it takes 15-20 minutes to complete, but smart people like you will probably finish it in 10 minutes or so. Everyone who completes the survey will be entered into a drawing to win a $150 Amazon.com gift card. Not bad for 10 minutes of work.
We extended the survey time for a few days, and the company helping us with the survey addressed a problem that timed a few people out of the survey while they were taking it. So if that happened to you, give it one more shot and give yourself another chance to win the gift card.

To the Student Life Staff and Hagerty Center Staff for participating in March’s Anti-Bullying week. The week included two events on NMC’s campus, and were coordinated through our Student Life office and co-sponsored by the Michigan Department of Civil Rights, Third Level Crisis Center, TBA-ISD, and the Michigan State Police Dept. NMC also worked closely with TCAPS, the State Theater and the Traverse City Area District Library toward these efforts. Several events were held at the Hagerty Center throughout the week that closed on Friday, March 16, with a Challenge Bullying Conference at the Hagerty Center. Over 350 students, professionals and concerned community members attended for a day of speakers and training. Student leaders attended from as far north as Sault Ste. Marie and as far south as Ludington. We also had great participation from TCAPS, and TBA-ISD high schools and middle schools.
