Chris is a Traverse City native and is married to his wife Jana. They are expecting a baby soon and have two dogs. Chris previously worked at Eaton Corporation and is a NMC Alum. He continued on to MTU for a bachelors and masters degree in Mechanical engineering – specializing in vehicle chassis, suspension, and steering design and dynamics. He then spent 6 years in the electrical transmission and distribution industry as a marketing engineer / sales engineer. In his spare time Chris owns and operates a professional off-road race team, specializing in designing, fabricating, and racing desert, rock, and short course race vehicles. (more…)

Esther was born and raised in a small Michigan town near Traverse City. She came to NMC in 2011, and worked at the Social Science office as a student assistant while she was earning her Associate’s Degree. After graduating in 2013, she spent a semester at Lake Superior State University before coming back home to Traverse City and to NMC as a supplemental assistant in the Financial Aid Office. She is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Integrative Studies at Ferris State University through the University Center and is double minoring in Professional Writing and English Literature. In her spare time she enjoys reading the classics, writing fiction, running, having adventures with her nephew, and spending time with the rest of her family.  (more…)

Jessica has a Bachelor’s degree in English from Michigan State University and is currently working toward a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from NMC and Ferris State University. She previously worked at MSU, first as a desk receptionist and then as a housing assistant. She has worked as a supplemental employee in the Student Financial Services office at NMC for the past four years. She enjoys reading, writing, trivia, playing games, going for walks, swimming, and spending time with family. She was born in Texas but has lived most of her life in Michigan. She lived in the Lansing area until about four years ago when she moved to northwestern Michigan. She currently lives in Traverse City with Milo, the silliest kitty in the world. (more…)

Miku was born and raised in Japan and met her husband Aeron who was stationed there while she was attending the University of Nagasaki. They moved to the States after she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, then they lived in California for few years, back to Japan, to Florida and finally came to Traverse City in 2013 after Aeron decided to attend Grate Lakes Maritime Academy. She loves playing piano, reading, doing yoga and cuddling with our two cats Chandler and Phoebe.

For the last two years Miku was taking accounting related courses at NMC while she worked in Records and Registration office and recently completed the courses she needed to take from NMC and FSU for her to be able to qualify to sit for the Uniform CPA examination. She will be taking the first section of the exam this Fall. (more…)

Kristy moved to Traverse City from Richmond, Indiana where she attended Earlham College and earned a Masters degree in Teaching. She worked as a high school teacher and for a non-profit youth theatre company as the Managing Director. While working in theatre, she directed over 30 shows for youth audiences using youth actors. She also enjoyed singing, dancing, and acting on stage as a member of Richmond Civic Theatre. In addition to theatre, Kristy enjoys running, visiting Lake Michigan beaches, and spending time with her family. Kristy and her husband Brian (a student at NMC) have a 5 year old daughter, Annabelle.  (more…)

Liebling, MarkMark Liebling joined NMC as Executive Director of Human Resources on July 20, 2015.  He can be reached at (231) 995-1342 and at mliebling@nmc.edu.

Mark was born and raised in the Detroit area and earned a bachelor’s degree in International Studies and a master’s degree in Labor and Industrial Relations, both from Michigan State. Mark has worked in Human Resources for more than 20 years, in both specialist and generalist roles, in companies including Walt Disney, Microsoft, Lehman Brothers and MasterCard.  A passion to experience life abroad led him to take regional HR assignments based in Australia, Malaysia, Japan and Korea, ultimately spending 17 of the past 20 years overseas. It was in 2002 in Tokyo that Mark met his wife, Huiseon (pronounced Heesun), while studying at a Japanese language school. Mark and Huiseon have 2 children Daniel (6) and Romy (2) and have recently relocated from Seoul to Traverse City. In addition to spending time with his family, Mark enjoys beaches and trails, cooking (and eating!), and is proud to have finished marathons in Honolulu, Naha and Tokyo. Betsy has worked as an independent contractor for the past four years with the Training Services Division of NMC as a Training Specialist. Betsy is a former travel executive and consultant, with over 30 years of statewide operational development, human resources, corporate sales and management experience. She has arranged and led a variety of groups traveling the globe and enjoys sharing her travel adventures. A native of Birmingham, Michigan, Betsy attended NMC’s law enforcement program. She has volunteered in many local and civic and private programs. She currently sits on the board of the the Traverse Area Human Resource Association and the State Board of the Michigan Lean Consortium. Betsy, her husband Mark, and daughter Lia enjoy spending time doing all northern Michigan outdoor activities.

Mark was born in Indiana, but was raised and went to school in Traverse City. He graduated high school from Traverse City Senior High in 1989 and then went to NMC to acquire my Associates degree.  From there he traveled to Big Rapids and went to School at Ferris State University and received a dual bachelors degree in Accounting and Finance in 1993-94.  Once out of college Mark spent the next 21 years working for Oil Energy Corp a natural gas exploration company in Traverse City as a Staff Accountant.  He was married to his wife Sarah in 1995 and they have two boys Matthew and Nathan.  Mark love to bowl, watch football, and travel with his family. Sarah grew up in Minnesota and Iowa, and received a BA in Family Science from Anderson University in Anderson, Indiana, then moved to Traverse City about 15 years ago.  Over the last few years, she has held several positions, including Director of Education at Abba’s House, and Scheduler at Children’s Therapy Corner. Sarah enjoys fiber arts, and is one of the Michigan makers selling pieces at My Secret Stash in downtown Traverse City, and she also teaches piano at The Beat Lab. (more…)
