Festival of Foods
SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 1 at the Hagerty Center. Learn new cooking skills and get fresh ideas from area chefs and gourmet food artisans. Financial Aid Fair

Enrollment Services at Northwestern Michigan College is pleased to offer a financial aid fair for prospective college students, parents, alumni, and current NMC students. There will be half-hour workshop sessions and time for students to meet individually with a financial aid representative. Snacks will be provided!

The Long Night You’ve Been Waiting (…And Waiting) For
The Long Night Against Procrastination returns to Osterlin Library on Thursday, December 5th from 6 p.m. – 2 a.m.!
Advisors, tutors, success coaches, WRC staff, and librarians will be joining forces and burning the midnight oil to help students tackle the end of the semester in festive style. Waves of free pizza will arrive at 7pm and 11 p.m. with other free snacks, treats, coffee and soft drinks throughout the night.
Departments and organizations across campus (as well as a few other local partners) have donated a bunch of awesome prizes, which we’ll be raffling off at 12:30 a.m.
Come get the fuel, motivation and help you need to crush those final papers and exams!

If you’ve ever been just a little bit curious about the Peace Corps then join Carrie as she speaks specifically to students about the continued relevance and impact of the Peace Corps and humanitarian work on individuals and the world. Carrie Hessler-Radelet returns to her native northern Michigan to tell stories from her 40 years of humanitarian service and provide takeaways for those curious in this commitment through service.

What’s Up World?! Civil Disobedience
The NMC International Club will facilitate this month’s featured discussion topic of civil disobedience, and what this means and how it’s treated around the globe. What’s Up World is a monthly student-led talk series that investigates current global topics. Join us for free food and beverages with an enlightening conversation. No prior knowledge of the topic is required.

Mel Larimer Concert Series feat. NMC Children’s Choir!
The NMC Children’s Choir will be performing in the Mel Larimer Concert Series on Sat., Nov. 23rd at 7pm and Sun., Nov. 24th at 4pm at First Congregational Church. This spectacular performance will also feature the Grand Traverse Area Festival Chorus and Chamber Orchestra, NMC Grand Traverse Chorale and Chamber Singers, and soloists Laura and Keith Brown – all under the baton of nationally known conductor, Dr. Henry Leck of Butler University. Dr. Leck is the founder and emeritus director of the Indianapolis Children’s Choir, one of the most highly acclaimed ensembles of its kind in the world. Winter Talk Series
The National Weather Service (NWS) office in Gaylord Michigan, in conjunction with Northwestern Michigan College’s Environmental Science Dept. will be hosting a discussion covering winter weather. The presentation will take a look back at last winter, present an outlook for the coming winter, and discuss taking and reporting snow observations. In addition, NWS staff will cover big storms on the Great Lakes and associated shipwrecks.

National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week
When: Nov. 21, 5:30 p.m. meeting at the Hagerty Center/Great Lakes Maritime Campus.
The walk is a mini-guided tour of how people experience homelessness and food insecurity. People can expect to have a glimpse of how challenging it is to get basic needs met. Resources will be highlighted by the people that are assisting those working to end food insecurity and homelessness.
PTKEDGE! and Academic Success Fair

Our first event will be held in the Osterlin Library and Student Success Center directly following the Transfer Fair on Tuesday, November 19th. Join us in a presentation of Phi Theta Kappa’s Transfer Edge program! This program educates students on the transfer process and guides them with tips and tricks as well as important information in the process of transfer. We will have several Academic Departments on hand to assist anyone looking for more information on what comes next!
For those in East Hall, we will be bringing our academic and student success related departments to YOU in the East Hall Basement on Wednesday from 3:30-5:30 p.m.

Free Veterans Day Movie!
Thank you for Your Service, a mainstream Hollywood movie based on a true story (from writers or American Sniper and Lone Survivor) will be aired free of charge and in honor of NMC veterans on Monday, Nov 11th (Veterans Day) from Noon-2pm. This will be in the Milliken Auditorium of the Dennos Museum.
