Kudos to Joan Sodini! Joan has been awesome at reimagining our orientation signage and branding! She created a great experience for our new students and elevated orientation to a higher level. She is lightning fast and asks questions to understand exactly what we need to create the best experience. Thank you for all of your work on Orientation and Commencement this year Joan!

Kudos to the Maritime team! It was wonderful to be able to tour the ship and see up close the hands-on opportunities we offer our students in the industry. It was clear that a lot of work went into the day to ensure it was a safe, fun experience for our community. So many smiling faces willing to answer questions and show off NMC awesome programs. Fabulous job!

Kudos to Bridget Sova! Bridget has stepped in this year to coordinate the Blair Elementary Mentoring program and planned an amazing end-of-year campus tour for the 5th graders. The students visited three campuses and were introduced to 10 of NMC’s programs throughout their visit. These students may very well be first generation students that before this program, never saw college as an option. Bridget showed them the possibilities in Health Care, Automotive, Marine Tech, Culinary and much more! The amount of coordination across campus it took, along with patience and creative thinking was impressive. We are so lucky to have Bridget on our team.
Kudos to Krissy Steinebach, Lindsey Lipke and Emilee Bruner! I would like to take a moment to thank and recognize Krissy, Lindsey (both from the Business Office) and Emilee (from Auxiliary Services) for graciously and expeditiously getting check payments out to new vendors for the Big Little Hero Race this Saturday. These three individuals had different pieces of the process to complete by collaborating and communicating (across campus) with each other to get the entire process done on a very tight timeline. Lindsey had to approve the new vendors, Emilee had to get them set up in Banner and Krissy had to process the checks. They worked together as a “well oiled machine” and accomplished this task in record time. Thank you all for your hard work (day-in and day0out)! It is appreciated beyond words!

Kudos to Eric Carlson! Eric was instrumental in producing the Coffee Chats for EES these last two semesters. He thrived in coordinating, managing, and producing weekly shows without much experience in event production. He was fearless and ambitious in turning out quality content. His support for EES and dedication to NMC’s continued excellence is what the college needs from its talent. Thank you, sir!

Kudos to EES student workers Rachel Bonesteel and Jennifer Yaple. They have gone above and beyond with their creativity, initiative and positive attitudes in their work on the EES team the past two terms. Along with numerous tasks and creative projects, Rachel took on creating College for Kids coloring books for commencement — be on the lookout for them! She also created an EES catalog wall — printed and framed many of our past catalogs — she even invited the cover models to come in and sign their pictures! Stop into the University Center to check it out. Jennifer, along with many other projects and tasks, took on redesigning our nmc.edu/kids landing page. This was a huge undertaking, working first in the staging site, writing code, etc. It looks great, be sure to check it out. Thank you Rachel and Jennifer.

Kudos to Kristy McDonald, Amy Burns Bailey, and Lindsey Dickinson for finding funds to support the free professional headshot event for NMC students and employees. This was a great opportunity for students to have a professional picture for their email, LinkedIn profile, resume and other professional endeavors!
Kudos to Chad Schenkelberger, Esther Nance and the Hawk Owl Café team! A big congratulations to Chad, Esther and the entire team at the Hawk Owl Cafe. The offerings in the last month have been thoughtful and well-made. A few favorites: Black History Month soul food, Lenten Friday cod sandwich, Italian wedding soup, lamb gyro and the Holi celebration chicken and vegetable shawarma. Thank you for organizing a collaborative team, who is ready with a smile and great service. Your variety of dishes are inclusive and honor all types of cuisines.
Kudos to Tracy Welch and Amy Burns Bailey! Tracy and Amy brought in Chaim Shapiro who was an excellent presenter and very knowledgeable on LinkedIn and how to fully utilize the platform’s capabilities. The presenter helped me grow my knowledge base personally and professionally. I am very thankful for the presentations. Kudos to them both.
Kudos to Carl Rocheleau and the UAV department. Carl gave a great unexpected tour to a group of Beaver Island students in town for the FIRST robotics competition. These students were excited to see the technology and drones deployed in our program.
Kudos to Tracy Welch and Amy Burns Bailey on a great training session for LinkedIn users. The training was well attended by students and faculty/staff. Thank you.
Kudos to the Student Success Center Team for planning and offering a series of very successful events as part of the “Mid-semester Reset” for students. Leadership from our coaches, Student Ambassadors, and Residence Life staff made events such as study bunnies, zen gardening and succulent planting, self-care workshops, sip and paint, and guided meditation all possible. The week was rounded out with root beer floats and several days of welcoming McKinley the therapy dog to the Testing Center to help students calm their nerves before exams. A special thanks to coaches for engaging students at events, Katy Knight for her organization and planning, and Katie Sommer-Ford for logistics support. This was a great team effort by all with a direct positive impact on our students.
