Kudos to Glenn Wolff: This summer, several students have shared with us examples of Glenn going above and beyond to help them as a faculty advisor and we wanted to take a moment to say Thank You! Whether it is still meeting with a student even if they do not want to continue with an art major or walking them through completing orientation, Glenn is a great example of going above and beyond as a faculty advisor and we appreciate the little things he does to support us and our students!

Kudos to Dave Weaver: Thank you, Dave, for assisting in the University Center computer lab for the College for Kids: Battle Royale: Make Your First Fortnite Style Video Game (Grades 3-5) classes. We had 32 young Hawk Owls in these classes this week. Dave went above and beyond by helping to “fix the bugs” and keep things running smoothly for our students and instructor.
Kudos to Jan Root, Cathy Brown, Brian VanSipe, Nancy Durecki, Judy Chu, Logan Deater and Andrea Grabowski: Writing & Reading Center (WRC) Summer 2022 staff—Logan Deater, Andrea Grabowski and myself (Carrie) recently undertook a major overhaul of the physical WRC space, creating a more accessible and inviting Center for students and employees alike to enjoy. The revamp of the WRC would not have been possible without the kind assistance of Jan Root, Cathy Brown, Brian VanSipe, Nancy Durecki and Judy Chu. Brian took the desk apart, making sure the carpet and area that once housed the desk were spotless after the desk’s removal, while Jan, Cathy and Nancy helped facilitate work orders and the logistics regarding removing/replacing office furniture. Extra special thanks to Judy, our WRC Director, for embracing the drastic changes, which Logan, Andrea and I began on a whim without first seeking approval. The Writing & Reading Center has consistently played an integral role in the development of confident writers, and the new space will continue to foster the learning and growth necessary for students to further hone their writing skills. Thank you to Jan, Cathy, Brian and Nancy for helping all of us at the WRC to create what will hopefully be an even more enriching environment for students. And thank you to Logan and Andrea for your enthusiasm in developing and implementing this project with me. NMC is lucky to have you all—you put the “community” in community college.
Kudos to Dave Gates, Steve Dix and Chris Little: Dave, Steve and Chris played vital roles in the reorganization/revamping of the Writing & Reading Center’s (WRC) physical space. Our telephone and computers found new homes within Scholars Hall 221, requiring new network connections and cords. Dave, Steve and Chris took care of the necessary work in very quick fashion, and were great fun to talk to while they were at the WRC. Thank you all for your dedication to creating spaces which allow for the best learning experience for each of our students. NMC is so lucky to have people like Dave, Steve and Chris!

Kudos to Kyle Morrison: We are so lucky to have Kyle at NMC! After the craziness of a recent new student orientation, some of our supplies went missing and after two weeks of searching, were nowhere to be found. After accepting that they probably were gone for good, Kyle was determined to help us find them, and he did! Thank you for always taking the extra step (or bike ride) to help another team in need Kyle.

Kudos to Carrie Dunklow: She took it upon herself to lead deep cleaning the Writing and Reading Center. This was important because it helped the space to look more put-together and less distracting for all who enter. It also was just healthier. No more caked on dust or germs. We can start the next semester with a clean space. Hopefully it will minimize the amount of allergies or other sickness, like COVID-19. Thanks!
Kudos to Tiffani Wilke: This June Tiffani Wilke, NMC Math & Science Instructor taught an Extended Education community class called Storm Science. The class ran for 3 weeks, meeting twice weekly. What a great testimonial we received!
“Last night my husband and I completed a 10-hour class called Storm (Science) at the college. It was taught by a meteorologist named Tiffani Wilke. She and the class were fabulous, spectacular, could not have been better!!!”
Thank you Tiffani for sharing your expertise, passion, and valuable time with NMC Extended Education students. What you do has a very big impact.

Kudos to Facilities: Facilities has been doing a great job supporting Extended Education with College for Kids. EES just kicked off summer 2022 programming and Facilities has helped with everything from room/building unlock schedules and troubleshooting to air conditioning (and assisting quickly when it isn’t working!) – to moving picnic tables for our youngest Hawk Owls. Thank you for ALL that you do, Facilities!
Kudos to Marcus Bennett: Marcus, with the help of E3, put on a successful Juneteenth celebration. It was well attended and nice to see such a celebration on campus. Thanks to all who made this event possible!
Kudos to Kari Kahler and student mentors: Kari Kahler recruited over 30 NMC students to be mentors to the 5th graders at Blair Elementary School. They had a kickoff assembly (last Fall) with President Nissley and gave each 5th grader a t-shirt that said, “Future Hawk Owl”. The mentors spent time with their 5th grader weekly and provided leadership lessons. The 5th graders had a tour of NMC campuses this spring. On the last day of their 5th grade year, Kari and some of the NMC mentors made breakfast for the 5th graders and attended their graduation ceremony. Kari was the guest speaker for their elementary graduation. Congratulations on a wonderful opportunity for our NMC students to be leaders and mentors in the community!

Kudos to April Kesler, Janet Lively and Sarah Montgomery-Richards for helping to run a session at the ETOM (Educational Technology Organization of Michigan) Spring Conference and Retreat on Friday, June 10th. Each instructor took time out of their busy summer schedules to share their ideas about “Engaging Online Learners” with colleagues from around the state. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!
Kudos to the grounds crew of Bob Bugai, Bill Long and Reece Sivek who unloaded the semi containing the crates and boxes for our summer exhibition Environmental Impact. While we requested their assistance in advance, facilities employees are always there for us at a moment’s notice, and for all those that we have forgotten to give kudos to over the years, we appreciate each and every one of you.

Kudos to Cathy Brown for repurposing furniture for us. I needed an instructor’s chair that was a higher chair than standard. She found one nearby and brought it over to my classroom. No lead time, no waiting and no cost.
Kudos to Erika Cotner, Brittany Hanbury & Emily Crull: As of May 31, year-to-date hires for NMC, including regular staff & faculty, supplemental employees, adjunct instructors and students, was 60. A more typical year (2021, for example) is 35. Kudos to Erika, Brittany (and Emily Crull, who has since moved to PRMC but also played a part in this accomplishment) for keeping high service levels while nearly doubling volume. We all appreciate all your hard work through these challenging times!
