Here is an informal account of the Northwestern Michigan College Board of Trustees meeting, Monday, August 24, 2015.

The NMC Board of Trustees met for its regularly scheduled monthly meeting at the Great Lakes Campus.

Trustees heard about upcoming anniversary celebrations for NMC’s University Center (20 years) and the Dennos Museum Center (25 years.)

Trustees heard an update on enrollment which shows positive growth.

President Nelson reported on legislative issues including updates on the potential nursing baccalaureate and performance funding formula review.

In his President’s update, Nelson said the college has chosen consulting firm Kelley Cawthorne for a six month contract to help lobby for capital outlay projects.

During the public input period the board heard from Lisa Blackford supporting housing initiatives for students and Mella McCormick supporting the speaker at opening conference.

The board authorized the purchase of a new tractor for $51,000.

The board agreed to enter into agreements for the New Jobs Training Program with the following companies: Cadillac Rubber and Plastics, Cherry Capital Foods,

Electro-Optics Technology, Elmer’s Crane and Dozer and Northwest Michigan Surgical Center.

The board had a closed session for updates on collective bargaining
