Thank you to everyone who volunteered, attended and helped enjoy a picture perfect day and made this year’s NMC Barbecue such a big success.
Thousands of people spent hours on the NMC campus enjoying a picnic lunch, music on three different stages, kids’ games, program and classroom displays, and much more.
We served 9,040 meals on May 18, up from last year. Included in that number are 359 local residents who received home-delivered meals through the Grand Traverse County Commission on Aging, which operated out of the kitchen in West Hall.
Thanks to the BBQ’s new partnership with American Waste, approximately 99 percent of all refuse at the event was recycled. In the last five years, recycling efforts have increased from 50 percent to 90 percent and now to 99 percent.
As usual, this event could not happen without the hundreds of volunteers who do everything from set up to cooking and serving, to cleanup, and the Oleson family, which donates all of the food and provides immeasurable logistic support.
Mark your calendars now for the 60th annual NMC Barbecue: May 17, 2015.
