The NMC BBQ featured a great picnic, great music and perfect weather, but it also marked the reveal of the Northwestern Michigan College Hawk Owl.
Originally NMC’s nickname was the Tomahawks, but when NMC ended its intercollegiate sports programs in the late 1970s, many years passed without the college actively using a nickname.
Last year, NMC students helped select a new nickname, one that fittingly, pays a little bit of tribute to the old one.
Thanks to the work of NMC’s Public Relations and Marketing department and Traverse City design studio Brand Tonic, the NMC Hawk Owl came to life yesterday.
The Hawk Owl will not replace the familiar NMC white pine logo, but serve as a secondary mark.
The NMC Bookstore is in the process of getting new Hawk Owl merchandise, so soon you’ll be able to show your Hawk Owl pride around town.
