Kudos to the following people and departments! Today a friend picked me up today at the Oleson Center. Given our solidly white landscaping of winter, she accidentally backed too far into a snow pile. Fortunately, Aaron Cook was kind enough to walk over to facilities to see if anyone was over there to help. Chris LaCroix was first on the scene with a shovel, moving a pile of snow the size of the car just to get to it! Amber Casey heard the call and stopped by on her way in, and Jim Gaylord also came over. Less than half an hour after we started, my friend and I were thankfully on our way home. Earlier in the month, Dave Sexton taught me the best way to start a late model (my old beater…) car in below zero weather.
Altogether, it is nice to know that our facilities department is “here to help.”
For anyone else like me who spent most winters somewhere warmer, the trick is to pump the gas gently twice before turning the key, then making sure to give plenty of gas. And, add dry gas to each tank during cold snaps. Who knew?
