Dennos Museum Center
- Gene Jenneman, Executive Director of the Dennos Museum Center was one of 120 museum professionals from 19 countries invited to deliver a paper on museum planning at the Yeongwol International Museums Forum in Yeongwol, S. Korea Oct 21-24, 2013. His second invitation in as many years, with all expenses paid by the S. Korean government.
- Dennos Museum Center successfully concluded the Birds of Paradise exhibition with National Geographic on September 22, 2013 hosting over 10,000 visitors.
- Negotiated the gift of seven Andy Warhol original prints for the Museum’s collection from the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts.
- The Dennos Museum store had record breaking sales in November – Driven in part by the collaboration with Leelanau Press to host the exhibition of the art work from the Art of the Sleeping Bear Dunes publication.
- Hosted the photography of Gregory D. Seman – local photographer – who is giving the entire exhibition of his work to the museum’s collection from which we will develop a traveling exhibition.
- The Dennos Education Department was awarded a Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts contract to provide arts programming to students with special needs. We partnered with TBAISD and Story Be Told to work with 130 students with special needs along with 30 general education students in the fall of 2013.
- The Dennos and NMC Music Department moved into a more collaborative position with the hiring of Jack Conners as the Tech Director for Milliken and adjunct digital music faculty.
- Gale Cook ran a membership renewal campaign mailing to recover lapsed museum members – took in over $7,000 in renewal dollars.
- Brought Caroline Cheng here to be part of the Go Global weekend program of NMC – TCAPS on November 16th – booked and produced Alash (Tuvan Throat Singing) Concert in association with Go Global.
- The Dennos Education Department was awarded a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History to host the Created Equal Film Festival, January 23-26, featuring three films focused on the Civil Rights struggle in the United States and capped off with a presentation and discussion with Dr. David Pilgrim from the Jim Crow Museum at Ferris State University.
