More than 80 percent of Americans say writing a book is on their life bucket list. This November, give it a try by participating with your NMC colleagues in the 15th annual National Novel Writing Month– a worldwide effort to write a 50,000-word book in 30 days.

Impossible? Not to the 341,000 novelists who emerged from NaNoWriMo in 2012. This year, Osterlin Library is hosting three write-ins for WriMos (as participants are called) at NMC and Traverse City:

  • Sunday, Nov. 3, 5-8 p.m.
  • Wednesday, Nov. 13, 5-9 p.m.
  • Wednesday, Nov. 20, 5-9 p.m.

In addition, Horizon Books will host two Saturday write-ins on Nov. 2 and 23, 2-8 p.m. both days, in the Shine Cafe downstairs.

Important note: Write-ins are not writing classes. Participants should bring their own work-in-progress novels, laptops, legal pads, etc., and be prepared to pound out the words in a collaborative, mad dash toward the 50,000-word finish line.

Her novel, Sparrow Migrations, published in April, was born during NaNoWriMo 2010. She’ll be making her fourth NaNo attempt this November.
