50 Years Ago:

  • The $800,000 Dorm-Student Center (West Hall) neared completion.  It opened on Sept. 30, 1963, with “housing for 168 students, a cafeteria serving 325 … [and] recreation facilities including table tennis, shuffleboard (see photo below), and billiards.” NMC was the first community college in the state to provide such a dormitory for its students.

25 Years Ago:

  • NMC began offering weekend classes.  Subjects ranged “from Computer Literacy to Psychology.”
  • Record enrollment announced for Fall – 4,307 – a 30% increase over the previous two years.
