Northwestern Michigan College Public Safety and Training invites you to attend the Michigan Autism Safety Training (MAST) for Family, School and Community, an initiative of the Autism Alliance of Michigan. The training will be held on July 17, 2013 from 6:30-8:30pm in Scholars Hall, Room 109. It will be led by Sgt. Scott Shuelke (Ret. Lansing Police Department), Autism Safety Specialist, Autism Alliance Michigan, and Mary Sharp, MD., Autism Alliance of Michigan.
The training will provide participants an opportunity to:
- Expand their knowledge of autism and autistic behaviors
- Increase understanding of safety risks to individuals with autism and individuals with special needs in the home, school, and community settings
- Acquire information and resources to develop and launch a safety plan
- Learn community outreach strategies to increase autism awareness and safety
