Good morning Faculty and Staff,

I am pleased to announce that the new NMC Food Pantry is coming soon! This will be a service for NMC students to supplement their food needs and the needs of their families. It has been a hugely collaborative effort on the part of NMC administration, faculty and staff.

Once we open, students will be able to fill out an online form to request food that will be available for them to discreetly pick up in the library, generally within 24 hours. Watch for information later this month on how to help students access this form.

In an NMC classroom of 40 students, research shows, on average 5 of those students may be food insecure (not having reliable access to sufficient food). Therefore, we are introducing the Minus 5 Project moniker to be used anytime we collect food to stock our food pantry.

In preparation for the food pantry opening this semester, we would appreciate your help in bringing non-perishable food items to Professional Development Day as a generous “entry fee”! Here are some examples of what you could bring:

  • Cereal
  • Canned fruit
  • Mac ‘n’ Cheese
  • Canned tuna or chicken
  • Pasta
  • Pasta sauce
  • Peanut butter
  • Rice/rice packets
  • Soups
  • Canned vegetables

You can drop off your food item(s) at either the Milliken or the Library on October 10th. Thank you for your help and service to our students!
