Scott is a native of Dansville, Michigan. He served nine years on nuclear submarines upon enlisting in the U.S. Navy and after earning his commission as a U.S. Navy Officer he served the remainder of his 27 year Navy career on various ships around the world as a Surface Warfare Officer. His second to last tour of duty brought him to Traverse City as the Naval Science Instructor at the Great Lakes Maritime Academy. He retired from active duty in 2013 following an 11 month deployment to Bahrain. Scott (BA, U of M) and his wife Mary (BS, Illinois State; MSW U of M; ADN, NMC), an RN, live on Old Mission Peninsula with their three children, ages 15, 13 and 9.
