The following is important information for staff and faculty for the start of the spring semester.

  1. For Employees or Students coming back this spring, if you don’t remember your Self-Service Password Security Responses, be sure to go to NMCID Password Self-Service (once logged into MyNMC) on your ‘My NMC employees’ Service Links for employees page and reset your responses. Once you set and remember your password security responses it is recommended that you return to Password Self-Service whenever you need to change your NMC password.tech tips1
  2. Instructor emails on mail.nmc.edu: Instructors may have both an employee account at @nmc.edu email and a student account at @mail.nmc.edu.  This is a reminder that both accounts exist, however, we have placed a message at the top of all employee-owned student accounts at mail.nmc.edu – that says  in the yellow bar at the top of the web page:

“IMPORTANT – This account alerts all senders to use your primary account <appropriate instructor email inserted>.  Please update your address book accordingly.”

Students may use this mail.nmc.edu account but the notification will come back to them telling them of the primary account address that they should use.

3. Technology Support Services: Check out the link on the Service Links sidebar to visit Technology Support Services or visit employees.nmc.edu/help and find out more about Phone Discounts, Free Office 365 subscription, and more support.

4. Jumpstart Guide: We use the Jumpstart Guide (students.nmc.edu/jumpstart) for Orientation and ResHall Students, but this guide will be very useful to many at NMC.    Anyone can refer students to the Jumpstart Guide for information on:

    1. WiFi
    2. Office 365
    3. Ellucian Go
    4. Google Mobile Apps
    5. Google Cloud Services (free)
    6. Moodle Mobile

6. Securing the Human: Systems & LAN Management introduced our new technology security awareness training at the beginning of October.  Since it’s release we have had 212 people visit the training site, and 146 people complete the training videos.  Thank you for those who have completed their training.

The requirement for security training is in response to the IT security audit that the College completed in the Spring and is intended for all faculty and staff, full-time, part-time, supplemental and student employees.  We will be working with Human Resources to include this as a component of other required training conducted by NMC.

Training Requirements

There are Mandatory Training videos (23), all less than 5 minutes each.  The total time commitment for all videos is about 1 hour, and can be split up and viewed over multiple times.  If you have not completed or started your security training, you can do so now.  To start your training, click on the NMC Technology Security Awareness Training link from the MyNMC page or you can  login at https://sso.securingthehuman.org/nmc
