Kudos- Praise or respect that you get because of something you have done or achieved. (defined by Merriam-Webster.com)

Kudos to the following people and departments! If you know of co-workers who are going above and beyond, nominate them for kudos here!

Kudos to Miku Crouch:  Miku joined a conversation with Freshwater Studies students to help them develop connections and gain a broader global perspective on issues concerning water resource management in Lake Biwa.

Kudos to Jerry Compton:  He is honestly and truly passionate about teaching young minds. He goes beyond the basic job description for an instructor and provides various learning styles for all abilities to grasp the material in class. He makes chemistry an enjoyable experience and helps in any way possible. If more instructors were as passionate and giving, young people would be so much more supported and knowledgeable.

Kudos to Paul Perry, Ed Blough, Phil Trowbridge, and Brian Lewis:  Paul, Ed, Phil, and Brian went above and beyond to help a family in the NMC apartments move to another apartment within the building. This is definitely not in their job description or in their assigned duties. The family was very thankful for the help to move their big furniture because they would not have been able to do so on their own.

Kudos to Mark DeLonge:  Mark has been instrumental in helping me put my class online this year, as well as getting through the kinks and stress of teaching an online class for the first time. I am not a ‘tech’ person so needed assistance rather frequently, and he always assisted with pleasure, making things far less stressful for me, and teaching me how to slowly master this new skill. Truly appreciated!

Kudos to John Velis:  John is always looking out for the students’ best interest. He regularly questions decisions and policies that have been considered from our perspective but not theirs. He reminds us why we are here!

John is constantly on the prowl for ways to bring more students into our program, to make classes more interesting to millennials, to keep them on target for their program of study, to reduce barriers to program progression, and to develop new opportunities for their employment while in school and after graduation.

John has made it his mission to reach out into the community to network with other institutions and potential employers. He has been a great mentor and role model both to new faculty and his veteran teacher peers.

John always has an upbeat attitude and will work whatever hours are necessary to accomplish our department’s goals. He is constantly discovering and sharing new IT technologies in order to keep our courses current and relevant. He plans his classes meticulously and strives to support institutional standards for curriculum and outcomes.

John Velis is a great example of what it means to be a teacher. He loves his profession and it shows in everything he does.

Kudos to Kim Anderson:  Kim works very hard for her students and clinical instructors. She’s compassionate and kind. NMC is blessed to have her on their team. She is new in the professor role of HN 242, although has worked as a clinical instructor here for many years. She works hard to facilitate organization and consistency for her class and clinical. She is always seeking out “how can we do it better”. I appreciate the effort she has put into her new role.
