runnersHave you thought about completing a 5K race but did not know where to start? Maybe you have done a few in the past and have “rusty” running skills. No worries. This program will help you get started or back on track with running.

How far is a 5K? A 5K is equivalent to 3.1 miles. Because the distance is relatively short (in runner terms), 5K races are very popular and well attended. This program is for beginners so seasoned runners need not apply. The goal is to finish the race feeling fabulous. We will ease into a training plan consisting of alternating walks and easy jogs. Over the course of ten weeks you will build the strength and endurance needed to complete the National Cherry Festival 5k on July 11. Of course you can pick any race you want or forego racing altogether – the choice is yours.

TRAINING

Training starts May 5th and will be held twice a week at a time(s) and days to be determined (based on participants schedules). It will require 20 to 30 minutes of your time three days per week.

What a coincidence that is amount of exercise recommended for optimum fitness. Funny how that works.

We will meet as a group twice a week on main campus. The third session will be completed independently on the weekend. I will provide you with a weekly training schedule so if you can’t make a session you can train independently. However, it is to your advantage to train with the group. The camaraderie and support you gain from training with others is priceless. Please let me know if you are interested by April 24 via email mtalicska@nmc.edu or phone 995-1154. Make sure to tell me your work schedule so I can determine the best meeting days and time(s). Ready, set, go…..
